I walked with Vi by my side to my first class, singing/song writing. I couldn't wait. I totally forgot to bring my guitar here with me, but that's alright. Vi said they had some I could use. We entered the classroom and I was mind blown. There were so many pianos and guitars around the room. Some were being played by students, others were available. It was absolutely stunning.
"I had the exact same expression as you when I first saw this place, come on," Vi said. She lead me around the big room pointing to all the different areas. There was the song writing station, with all the instruments. Students had headphones in and notebooks out. There were 5 sound proof rooms, none being used at the moment, and one door that lead to a recording studio.
Someone was recording their song so Vivian couldn't show me in. Finally, the teacher, Mr. Clark, came and introduced himself.
"Hello, you must be Melody," he said.
"Hi," I said shyly. I scolded myself in my head for being so shy again. I absolutely hated this side of me.
"No need to be shy here Melody. Your name already says you're a musician. I see you already have Vivian here to help you so I'm sure she can hook you up to an instrument of some sort. We have more in the music room if you need one. You are to write a song and record it. Then you will hand it in a cd and you will be tested on your range, your use of instruments, and how well you wrote the song and it's message. It will be due in three months, so you have plenty of time. Understand?" he asked. I nodded and he smiled then walked away. I turned to Vivian and told her I was going to go and work with a guitar.
"Need help?" she asked.
"No I'm good," I said. Thankfully I brought my own set of headphones. I got right to work playing around with different chords and different melodies. I decided the song will be a love song. I was glad that I had three months to work on this song. I could take my time on it.
I was so caught up in playing the guitar that I didn't even realize the bell rang for the next class. Vivian had to take my headphones off to tell me. I quickly gathered all my belongings and followed Vivian to modelling class. To say I was nervous was an understatement. I was scared. What if I messed up? What if everyone laughed at me?
The thoughts circled around in my head until we got to the classroom. We walked in and Vivian immediately took a seat. I took a seat beside her and we waited patiently for Mme. Elswood to come into the class.
"This is a really fun class. You get to practice walking down the catwalk, learn different makeup techniques, and we learn about what the back stage crew does. Not only for fashion shows, or photo shoots, but for other performances," Vivian explained.
"Do we have to wear anything revealing?" I asked.
"Depend. Some days yes. Sometimes we have to model the fashion designing class's clothes," she said.
"Really? But we are in that class," I said.
"Yeah I mean the students before or after us," Vivian said.
"Oh," I said.
Mme. Elswood came into the room and introduced me to the whole class. Being the now shy Melody I was, the stares weren't appreciated. I sat down quickly and let her start the lesson. She called us up one by one to walk on the runway. When she called me up, I felt very anxious. Vivian asked if she could walk with me and, thank goodness, Mme. Elswood agreed.
Fashion Designing class was by far my favourite. Mlle. Jaqueline had a thick french accent but spoke fluent English. She taught us different fashion trends, and different stitches with a sewing machine. She told us to practice them, and to find people who are our fashion inspirations since we'd be doing a project later in the year.
