"What to wear? What to wear?" I mumbled to myself. I rummaged around my closet until I came upon a royal blue dress that just barely covered my shoulders. It was lace at the top and puffy at the bottom with a see-through band that showed my belly button; and it was a half up, half down, style. I decided my hair was best left down and straight, but I added a bow in my hair to flare it up a bit. My makeup was very light, and very natural; concealer, mascara, and a tinted lip balm. I slipped on my black, platform, pumps with straps. I sighed and looked at myself intensely. Maybe it's too open and revealing.
"I should change into the red one," I muttered.
"No way, you look hot!" Vivian said from behind me. I whipped myself around to find her in sweatpants and a crop top, leaning on the side of the door.
"I don't like how much skin it's showing," I whispered.
"Why? It's not that much," Vivian said confused and walked into the room towards me.
"I don't know, what if I seem too...ugly?" I asked looking down from the mirror.
"Honey, you look hot, and amazing, and you have a great body, you shouldn't feel that way," she said.
I shrugged and sighed deciding I was going to change into the red one despite what she said. I walked to my closet to search for it, until Nate's voice filled the penthouse.
"Mel?" he yelled
"Crap," I muttered. "Coming!" I yelled.
I took one last glance in the mirror and left the room knowing it was to late to change now. I walked into the hallway and gasped when I saw Nate. He was wearing jeans, a dressy shirt with a tie, and some Jordans.
"Sporty, yet dressy, I like it," I said with a smirk.
"You look stunning," he said in utter shock.
"Thank you," I said shyly.
"Shall we get going?" he asked.
"Sure thing," I said.
He grabbed my hand and we walked out the door. I looked behind me seeing Alec come in with a scowl on his face, and Vivian with a sad smile and a hand on her hip looking up at Alec. I scrunched my face in confusion but let it slide.
Nate brought me to the front gates and there was a cab waiting for us. I looked at him with an odd expression thinking one of us would have driven. He must have seen my confusion and explained that the school didn't let kids drive, so they hire cabs specifically for the school and student use.
"Wow," I said and got into the cab. We both sat in the back seat and the cab driver turned back. He looked oddly familiar, and then it clicked.
"Marco?" I asked.
"Why hello Melody," he said.
"You're our driver?" I asked.
"Your uncle and aunt told me to be your personal driver because they seem to trust me more than the other chauffeurs," he explained. I raised my eyebrows and nodded my head slowly.
"I see," I said. He turned back around and drove off.
"Where am I taking you two this evening?" he asked.
"Seta," Nate responded.
"Ah excellent choice," Marco said with a grin and looking at me through the rear view mirror. I smiled at him and rested my head on the window while watching the scenery as I did just a few days ago.
About twenty minutes later, we got to the restaurant Seta. It was so beautiful. It was fancy and elegant with amazing looking food. I held in my excitement to a minimum and sat down at the reserved seating table.
"You reserved a table?" I asked.
"Of course, did you see that lineup?" Nate said.
He wasn't wrong. Outside of the restaurant is a swarm of people waiting to get in and get a table. The ladies wore elegant dresses and the men wore suits. I felt a little underdressed, but I had Nate with me, which made me feel better.
I looked at the menu and got overwhelmed with all the Italian food. I didn't know what to get because everything looked so good!
"Want me to order for you?" Nate asked.
"I can't decide what to have," I sighed.
"The pasta is the best here," he said with a smirk. I smiled and closed the menu.
"Pasta it is then," I said.
The waiter came shortly after and took down our orders. After waiting for a good thirty minutes, we were served.
"It looks delicious," I said.
We ate our food in silence for a while until I decided to start a conversation.
"So what brought you to Mussolini?" I asked.
"My parents shipped me off when I was seven to live with my grandparents. They enrolled me here when I was ten, and I took the middle school classes they provided. That's where I met Alec. They died shortly after I started high school and then the school had full custody over me. When I turned eighteen, which was a few weeks ago on January second, I legally turned an adult so now I'm a free man," he said.
"What about your parents?" I asked.
"I could care less what they are doing. They haven't tried to contact me, nor do they know if I'm still in Italy," he explained and took another bite of his pasta.
"Do you ever want to see them again?" I asked.
"No, they shipped me away because I was too much to handle. Obviously I wasn't wanted, and I've been fine without them for the past eleven years," he said.
I nodded my head and took a bite from my pasta.
"What about you? What brought you here, America?" he asked with a grin.
"Ah my dear friend, that's a story for another time," I said with a grin.
We finished up our meal and we split the bill; after I persuaded Nate I could pay for myself. We went outside and waited for Marco to come pick us up. The time was seven thirty so we had exactly half and hour before we had to get back to campus.
Marco picked us up and hurried off back to the school to make sure we weren't late. We got back right as the gates started to close.
Nate and I walked to our penthouses in silence. I didn't really know what to say especially since he told me his life story and I didn't. I felt bad, but I wasn't ready to spill my guts to anyone quite yet.
We reached my room door and I unlocked the door. I turned to face Nate and hugged him lightly.
"Thanks for the dinner Nate, it was great," I said softly.
"No problem America," he said and walked away to his dorm. I sighed and entered my dorm and closed the door. Vivian came running towards me and started to bombard me with questions.
"How was it? Was he a gentlemen? Did you have fun? Did he hurt you? Where you go to eat? Did he p-"
"Vi!" I exclaimed. She shut up mid sentence and covered her mouth.
"It was great, yes he was a gentlemen and even offered to pay the whole meal but I convinced him to let me pay half. We went to Seta, bad pasta and had normal conversation. And before you ask, no we aren't dating, we are just friends," I concluded.
Her eyes brightened up a bit but she held a sad expression. She turned around and walked away back to her room without another word. I raised my eyebrow in confusion, but again let it slide. I took off my heels and walked to my room to go to bed.
