Chapter 4
I swear..... It was strange.
I could only hear the voices. I could only hear his voice. And it sounded like a melody.
"Sweet girl I'm coming home...." he whispered and I sighed internally. "Baby girl, I'm coming home....." he whispered and took my had in his, squeezing it ever so slightly. "I promise I'll be back again soon." And with that, his melodic voice was gone. His warm, soft hand was no longer holding mine.
I awoke to a warm fire and a blanket tossed neatly over me with a little note from Peter next to me. "Hey baby girl, I'll be back soon. I promise." it read and I sighed.
I decided to explore when I heard a voice screaming my name. I was armed so I ripped out my dagger and knocked an arrow. I ran towards the voice and saw a person get hit in the head with a rock. I shot my arrow above the attackers' head and a net fell over them. I ran to the victim's side and noticed that face did not only belong to someone I knew, but the one I love.
"Peter...." I whispered and held his head in my lap.
"Hey baby girl..." he said roughly and I choked back sobs.
"Please don't leave me." I whispered and he shook his head.
"I could never leave you." he said and I nodded. I took a cloth and wrapped up his head, stopping the bleeding. He rested his head in my lap and I saw his facial expressions change as he had a nightmare. I didn't want to wake him, so instead, I just intertwined our fingers and he stopped squirming and had a look of peacefulness on his face.
It seemed like magic. But all magic comes with a price. And if Peter had to pay a price, I would gladly take his place. His head healed quickly because of the "magic". Somebody was looking over us. Somebody who cared. And could do magic.
That made me scared more than anything else.
I walked over to the net covering the attackers and kicked. I kicked as hard as I could. I repeatedly kicked until Peter pulled me away. "They aren't worth it...." he said and I shook my head.
"You don't understand..." I started and looked him in the eyes, "Whoever's under there mimicked my voice and made you try to find me. Whoever's under there is trying to hurt you." He looked at the net and lifted it up. The figures were all masked and knocked out from the weight of the heavy net falling on top of them. I lifted the mask off one and gasped. "Lost Boys....." I whispered and Peter looked at me.
"Can't be. They wouldn't do something like that...." he muttered and I shook my head.
"Doormat, I know you lie around all day but you've got to know that some of your followers tend not to take your bullshit. They might be lost, but they wanna go home."
He chuckled and murmured, "Back to the nicknames..." My smile faltered and I pulled Peter behind a bush. He tried objecting but I shushed him. Voices walked towards us.
"You think they came this way?" a voice asked. It was Felix.
"Probably," said another and I saw Reggie and Danny with him.
"We better keep moving so we can find them..... it's almost time."
I looked to Peter. "What the hell are they on about?!"
He looked straight ahead of him and whispered, "The shadow," then turned to me. "Lex, the shadow is coming."
My eyes went wide. "No, no it can't come. You promised you wouldn't leave me. You promised you would be back. Please. You can't leave me. Not with Felix. Please." I begged him. I begged him with my eyes, which were tearing up. I begged him with my voice, a pure sign that I didn't want him to leave. And I begged him by gripping his hand. "You can't leave." I whispered. He shook his head.
"Foolish girl." He spoke with darkness in his voice. "You believed me this entire time." He smirked and my eyes went wide.
"You tricked me! All of it was a lie!!!"
He chuckled. "Yes, all of it." I grit my teeth and pulled out my dagger. He smirked and took it away from me in one simple movement. "Have you learned nothing?" He asked and I shrugged.
"Depends. I've learned that you are a heartless son of a bitch." I said. "I've learned that you felt lonely after your parents abandoned you on the streets. I've learned that you started this group of 'Lost Boys' so you could get your revenge. I learned that you, no matter how much you try to deny it, will do anything for someone you've given a second chance. And even though you don't realize, that's what the lost boys are all about. Second chances."
"Dimwitted. Arrogant. That's what you are." He muttered and chopped off a tree branch which dropped a cage on me. "To the Cave of Echoes."
I sighed. "You've got to be kidding me." He laughed and Felix came out.
"We've found them."
"Baelfire and his little group?" Felix nodded. Pan continued. "Leave them be. We have a bigger task ahead."
Sooner than I had hoped, I was on a pedestal in the middle of the cave. "You heartless little....." I sighed.
"Fighting it won't help you!" Pan yelled and I growled.
"You doormat! I told you my deepest, darkest secret, one I've been keeping to myself for years! And you betrayed me. Felix was right. I never should have stayed here. I never should have come back. I left for a purpose and I'm back again. How stupid of me."
Pan laughed. "Nobody's paying attention to you!!!"
I scowled as they walked away and leaned against the wall of the cage. "And now, I wait."
-------
I waited for what seemed like days. No food, no water and I felt extremely tired. But the place wouldn't let me sleep. Apparently you have to be awake for people to actually come rescue you. So I waited until the crew came to save me. What else was I supposed to do?
Eventually, I saw Emma in the doorway. "Guys, I found her!" she yelled and I smiled.
"Yeah, I'm here!" I yelled and saw Hook run up.
"Alexandria?!"
"Dad!!!" I said and he smiled a little.
"Dad?!" Everybody else chorused as he smiled sheepishly.
"Milah. She had a baby before Crocodile here ripped her heart out. That baby was Lexi."
I sighed. "Enough with my life story, get me out of this jail, I'm dying over here!!!"
Emma laughed. "I really like this girl!" she said, looking at Neal who only looked at me and mouthed, "I promise."
I sighed and sat back as they revealed their secrets. Neal ran across and kneeled in front of me. "People have promised me a lot of shit lately. And all those promises have been broken."
He sighed. "Lexi, I never knew I had a little sister, and in truth, when I was younger, I didn't care if I were to have one either. Being an only child on the run was hard when nobody would talk to you. So I promise to kick Pan's ass for you. And then let you take over from where I leave off, okay?"
I nodded. "But to let you know, you're leading yourself into a war zone." He shook his head and smiled. "Now what's your secret?" I asked patiently and he smirked.
"My secret, is that I actually fell for Tamara's game. I actually fell for what she told me. And I proposed to her. And we were gonna get married. And that was the biggest mistake of my life, next to letting Emma go for 12 years." The cage disappeared and I hugged him.
"Best big brother ever." I whispered in his ear. "And I would know, I have like 12 of them watching over me." He chuckled an we walked back to the group. I hugged my dad and we all left the cave.
"Where did Pan say he was going?" Snow asked and I sighed.
"The one place only he and I know about. Until now. Lets go."
