JASON KIDD WAS my friend. He was a boy who was very closed off and he was always glaring; cold and menacing, his stare was as sharp as the blade of a knife. But I liked his company and I enjoyed being around him. It felt like there was always something missing and perhaps this was it. I liked having Jason by my side.

Sitting on the outdoor swing chair that sat on the front porch of my house outside, I thought carefully about the boy that had all the time in the world. He was attractive and anyone could see that, though he didn't seem to entertain the idea of girls. He was definitely the kind of guy that girls would spend hours fawning over, yet he didn't seem to care much for the attention he received.

Jason's personality was alluring. He was a mysterious guy and it was that quality of his that I wanted to investigate and explore like he were treasure chest and I, the pirate searching high and low. He was a question and I wanted to know the answer.

"Violet." A familiar voice had entered my ears, the person becoming known as the footsteps neared towards me, his figure loomed over my petite frame and my eyes traveled up to meet his. Brown eyes filled my vision and my soft smile brightened as Jason made his way towards me, his arms hanging lazily by his side, his facial expression was blank, but the usual glare that he sported was nowhere to be seen.

"Jason, what are you doing here?" I asked. He paused and looked around, stepped up the stairs of my porch, the floorboards creaked under him, then he took a seat next to me. He stared down at his hands, then his eyes slowly found their way back to mine, then he smiled.

It wasn't a big smile, in fact, it was barely visible, but it was a smile nonetheless. Nowadays, he smiled like that every so often and it made me feel warm inside every time he did. After he'd seen the photo of him and the beaming expression that was displayed on my face, he would smile around me; only me.

"I've got a surprise for you." I tilted my head to the side, the cool and light breeze brushed through my hair as we sat outside in the summer weather. I was slightly shocked at his words, he didn't seem the type to get people presents and again, I found a foolish grin etching across my lips.

Excitement brewed within. "What's the surprise?" I asked and his lips parted. No words escaped his from his mouth and his smile vanished, he rubbed the back of his neck with his hand, nervously and cleared his throat with a cough. "It wouldn't be a surprise if I told you."

"Come on." He pulled me from my seating position, dragging me towards his car. Again, for the second time today, I was shocked. Jason wasn't acting like Jason...he was talking more and he smiled more today than he had the past week. Jason smiling was like a baby trying to take its first steps; it wasn't often, but when they felt that burst of determination, you couldn't keep them crawling.

"Wait a second." He stated and he shut the black car door behind me and ran into my house, shortly returning with a backpack. My face hovered inches above the window of the car door and I followed his towering figure the whole way, from the second he entered my house to the moment he slid into the drivers seat of his car with ease.

He handed me the the backpack, I then noticed he was holding something in his fist and I giggled. "A blind fold...really?" Jason held up a silky piece of black material before me. He nodded and rubbed the back of his neck nervously. I don't think I'd ever seen him do that before but around me, he did it often. I think he was nervous around me and I smiled at the thought.
