Stiles woke up feeling surprisingly confident today. After weeks of practice with Lydia, today was finally the day of the gala concert. I mean, Stiles didn't really see a reason to be nervous, he came this far to screw up now and it's not the next round of the competition, it's a concert. People would be there to watch him and Lydia perform, not judge them. But then again, judgmental people exist. He yawned and looked at the clock, he still had time to make breakfast and to get ready before going to the concert hall. He wondered if Lydia was awake already. He sighed and got up.
Stiles was surprised to see his dad sitting in the living room while watching TV .
"D-dad?" Stiles asked, staring at him.
He looked at Stiles and smiled, "Good morning."
"What are you doing here?" Stiles asked again.
"Well I heard about your gala concert and since I didn't really have any work to do today, I came back here. Sorry I didn't get to go to your competition and such, I hope this makes it up to you," his dad explained as Stiles sat next to him.
"It's okay," he replied, "But how did you know about the competition and the concert?"
"Oh Allison sent me emails about it and Scott called me and now I'm here," he patted Stiles on the back, "Good luck out there today."
"Thanks dad," Stiles said as he smiled at him and went to prepare breakfast.
............................................................
Stiles and his father arrived at the concert hall. The sky was slightly cloudy and sunny enough for Stiles to feel sweaty in his suit. As they walked in, they spotted Allison and Scott standing there. Stiles looked around but Lydia was nowhere to be found.
Allison waved at both of them, "Hello."
"Hey" Scott waved at them too.
"Hi guys, have you seen Lydia?" Stiles asked, looking around then at both of them.
They shook their heads, "Nope. We're going to find our seats before more people arrive, they want you backstage of course," Allison said to him.
"Okay well see you guys later," Stiles replied as he started walking away from them.
"Break a leg!" Scott called out to him.
Stiles smiled back and continued to walk, feeling a little bit less worried about Lydia. After all, he is aware of the fact that girls do take their time when it comes to appearances. When Stiles arrived, he was greeted by fellow musicians and was showered with compliments. He recognized some of the faces from the competition he was in and they were surprisingly nice to him. Stiles thought they would be rude like in the movies or something.
Hours had passed and Lydia still didn't show up. He paced back and forth as he called her on his phone but all he got was her voicemail. Out of frustration and anxiety, Stiles called Allison to keep an eye out for Lydia to keep calling her until she answered. But as he hung up, it was now his turn to perform.
"B-but Lydia, she's not here. We have to wait for her. Can we move our performance and wait a bit longer?" Stiles asked, his eyes filled with worry.
"I'm sorry but we can't," Mrs. Solvinski said and frowned, "The show must go on Stiles, without Lydia."
"B-but-"
Mrs. Solvinski cuts him off, "Stiles please, you have to perform on your own."
Stiles sighed and swallowed all the anger and frustration down, he was not going to be an asshole to her, it was just plain rude. Besides, as musicians continue to perform no matter what.
He silently apologized to Lydia as he said, "Alright, I'll do it."
Stiles got on stage and performed the song like he had during practice when Lydia was there with him.
...................................................
When the concert was over, Stiles met his dad and the others, slightly expecting them to say "Good job" and whatnot but instead he was greeted with panic painted on three of their faces. Allison jogged up to him, her face red and puffy, she looked like she was gonna cry waterfall of tears.
"Allison what's wrong?" Stiles asked, feeling this sudden ache on his chest, like someone pressing weight onto him.
"Stiles it's Lydia," she took a deep breath, "She's in the hospital."
