Part two to "Red | Steve Rogers".

Based off "Red" by Taylor Swift.

Touching him was like realizing all you ever wanted was right there in front of you

Your son, James smiled up at you. "He seems really cool."

You nodded. "You know who he was, right?"

James smiled. "Captain America! Then Uncle Bucky took over when he died."

"That's right." You kissed him on his pudgy cheek, ruffling his dirty blonde hair. "You look so much like your father."

Memorizing him was as easy as knowing all the words to your old favorite song

James giggled as your nose tickled his cheek. "Is that a good thing?"

"Of course it is!"

The doorbell rang, causing you to look up for a moment. You set James on the couch, and padded over to the door, opening it.

You gasped once you saw the figure in the door, and you held back tears.

"Steve?"

Fighting with him was like trying to solve a crossword and realizing there's no right answer

He was wearing a tight fitting navy blue shirt, and looked exactly the same as when you last saw him.

"Hi, (Y/N)," he greeted, pulling you into a hug.

You stayed still for a moment in his arms, before pushing him away, and slapping him across the face.

"You died! You left me here alone! For four years, Steve!"

He had tears in his eyes, and he took in a shuddering breath. "I know, (Y/N), I-"

"You know?!" You raged. "Do you know how hard it was for me to continue living?! Like you didn't even exist. But I had to stay strong. For-"

"Mommy?"

Regretting him was like wishing you never found out that love could be that strong

You gasped, and opened the door a bit more, revealing James to Steve.

The little boy came closer, and wrapped his arms around your leg.

"Mommy? Who is this?"

You picked him up, setting the four-year-old on your hip. "Honey, this is Steve."

"He has the same name as daddy!"

You and Steve chuckled quietly.

"James... This is your daddy."

Losing him was blue like I'd never known

James' face lit up and he gasped, looking to his father. He held out his arms, and you handed the little boy to Steve, who took him from your arms immediately.

He held James to his chest, combing a strand of hair away from his face. A tear fell down his face as he held his child in his arms for the first time.

Steve kissed James on the forehead.

"He's so beautiful."

Missing him was dark grey all alone

You watched the scene from the doorway, leaning against the frame with a small smile and water pooling at the edges of your eyes.

Steve hugged James closet to him, the young boy burying his face in his father's neck. Steve looked to you, and you walked forward, enjoying his warm embrace.

He laid a kiss in your hair, and pulled his family closer to him.

"Don't think I'm forgiving you for leaving me yet."

Forgetting him was like trying to know somebody you never met

"Daddy!" James squealed, running from you as you chased him around the house.

Steve crouched down and opened his arms up, with a now six-year-old James barreling into them.

He chuckled when the force almost caused him to fall over, but stood up when you came into the room.

"No! Mommy's gonna make me take a bath!"

You wiped the sweat off your forehead with a towel, and threw it over your shoulder. "James. Don't make this hard for me." You threatened.

Steve walked forward, swiping hair off your face, so it looked like it stayed in your loose ponytail.

"Don't worry, Love. I'm sure we'll get him to shower somehow."

"No!" James protested.

Steve raised an eyebrow. "You are taking a shower today, young man, even if I have to hose you down."

You laughed. "That doesn't seem like a bad idea."

But loving him was red.
