I sat waiting on the bus waiting to head to the hotel. Turns out plans had changed and we were now taking a car. All of the band piled into a car and we drove to the gate to leave. We drove in the direction Indie walked off in and she was nowhere to be seen. I did notice one thing that I needed to take care of.
"Can you stop the car please?" Our driver pulled over to the side of the road. I looked round, no fans or people in general were around.
"Why are we stopping Michael?"
"Does anyone have a paper and pen?" The driver handed me both. I got out of the car and headed towards a lonely car in the parking lot. Callingsworth was on a bumper sticker. I knew it was hers. I knew before seeing the bumper sticker. I just had the feeling which is why I had him pull over. She had come from this direction with her dead phone. I knew she couldn't get into her car which is why she had to call someone. Everything just fell into place.
I was never going to see her again if I didn't try. That's where the pen and paper came in.
"Don't lose your keys next time. Then you won't have to own our fans. Also I know this is your car. Guess you'll have to come to another shit show to find out how. I mean if you don't already know why.
x 'Famous' Michael"
I ran back to the car after placing the note under her windshield wiper. The band questioned me. I obviously explained to them what was going on.
"What if someone finds that?"
"What if someone saw you Michael?"
"Who cares?" I looked in the direction of the car. "If I'm not allowed to have a good time then what is the point?"
"As long as you aren't playing with your heart and dick." Calum looked at me.
"Shit Calum. Stop acting so serious. It's all just good fun." I laughed. We headed off to our hotel for the night.
I didn't understand why my band thought I wanted something from Indie. Just because I bring a girl around doesn't mean I want something from her. I just wanted to get to know her. Who was this girl who found her way to our concert? Who follows a random group of people? Who stands in a crowd of people they can't stand? Who lets a band member take over their life for a night?
I wanted to know how someone just ends up at a concert and let's all of this happens. I wanted to figure out what made her so different. I wanted to figure out how she stayed out of the mainstream lifestyle. Most people get so caught up in it. They are so involved with being the same, following the trends. People are afraid to go out and be their own person. She was not one of those people. I wasn't interested in sleeping with her or being in a relationship with her. I mean I barely knew her for god sake. I mean that wasn't something that stopped me before but I have grown up since the last tour.
I just really had a desire to get to know this hidden talent. The hidden talent being Indie herself. I had just scratched the surface. We had two days off in the town she resides in but there was a slim chance that I'd run into her. If I wanted any chance of getting beneath the surface I would have to try. I was hoping the note would be a step in the right direction. Fan or not, she was going to be the thing I remembered most from the whole night. She might even be the thing I remember most from the whole tour at the end of it.
We spent our two days off exploring the city. I kept her in the back of my mind. I wondered if she got the note. I wondered if she'd show up to another show. I wondered if I'd ever know if she came to another show. I couldn't let her control all my thoughts though and I didn't. It was just something in the back of my mind.
It was the day of our next show. Calum was acting a bit off. I didn't know if something was going on. He refused to tell us anything. Maybe he wasn't feeling good. Either way he definitely wasn't his normal self. He was hiding something.Indie's POV
You would think being best friends with Kate would mean we never fought. Even best friends fight though. It was over something stupid. She was sick of having a secret held from her. She would get over it but for the day she was mad. There was nothing I could do to make things better. Her happiness in the friendship was going to have to be on her own terms. Which I was willing to wait on because no little secret was going to ruin our friendship.
With the note in the back of mind I decided to do research. If Michael wanted me to come to another show I wasn't going to turn him down. Plus I did want to know how he knew it was my car. The band thought I stalked them, well I felt it was the other way around. In my research I found that they were doing another show pretty close. It was just a few hours away. I just had to figure out how I was going to make my way back stage again. Then I remember Calum let me use his phone so I had his number.
As much as I hated my mother I needed her to help me. I hoped to god she didn't delete her recent calls. I ran downstairs and to my mom.
"Mom." I said quietly knowing she was still mad at me from the other night.
"What Indie?" She looked at me.
"The number I called you from the other night. Is it still in your phone?" I crossed my fingers behind my back hoping for a yes.
"Why?"
"It's a band member's number. They asked me to come to another show. But I don't really have another way to contact them other than that number."
"I guess that's your problem then isn't it? Maybe you should be more responsible."
"Mom seriously? I am 20 years old. If I want to go hang out with a band I should be able to."
"And let my daughter make a fool of herself and become a groupie. No thank you."
"It's not even fucking like that. I don't want to fuck them. I just want to hang out with them. That is it. They are nice people." I shook my head. "Whether they are big or not isn't a difference. I don't understand what you want from me."
"I want you to grow up."
"So Blakely is allowed to go to parties and get drunk. Yet I can't go to a concert fully sober. Makes sense."
"Don't talk about your sister."
"If Blakely was still here she would want me to go. She was my biggest fan." I shook my head.
"And you are the reason she's gone." I clenched my fist.
"No she is." I yelled at my mother. "She had the fucking party. She got drunk. She took the steering wheel. I did fucking everything I could to avoid the accident. She was incoherent and didn't know what the fuck was going on. This is fully on her. If she could speak to you I know she'd tell you she was ashamed to call you her parents. Just like she was ashamed of you when you called me a shit child for dropping out of college. She hated you as much as I do." I grabbed my mom's phone off the counter and walked away with it.
I had tears rolling down my face. My mom screamed and ran after me. I locked myself in my room and got the number in my phone before I let her get her phone back. I let things calm down before calling Calum but time was ticking.
The phone rang and rang with no answer. I tried a few times before leaving a voicemail. "Calum. It's Indie from the other night. Michael said he wanted me at another show. Well tonight's the only chance I have. Get back to me soon please."
I started to get ready. I was going ticket or no ticket, call or no call. I was going to show up to that concert for the night. I grabbed Michael's lanyard before leaving my house. I was screamed at by both my parents as I walked out the door. I didn't care what they thought of me, just like I never had. It was my life and I was going to do what I wanted.
As I drove down the highway my phone began to buzz. I half expected it to be my parents the other half expected Calum. It was Calum. "Hey Indie?" He questioned as I answered the phone.
"Calum?" I questioned him back.
"Are you coming?" I nodded and realized I was on the phone.
"I'm on my way with no ticket and no idea why the hell I'm doing this. You all suck."
"You enjoyed sucking Michael off too much. So I think it's you who really sucks." I pretend gagged at the idea. Not like choking on the dick but like gagged at disgust.
"I can't." I could hear Calum laughing.
"Well you still have Michael's pass right?"
"How'd you know?"
"Because he doesn't have it anymore and you were the last person with it. Either way hide it. Don't let anyone see it. When you show up here go to the box office. Tell them your name."
"What are you going to use?"
"Indie" he paused.
"Callingsworth." I filled in for him.
"That." He laughed. "You're going to have to be a fan for the night. No special treatment."
"You aren't putting me in that crowd. I refuse."
"Then looks like you're coming for no reason." I could tell he was joking. At least I hoped he was joking. There was an awkward silence in the phone. "No there will be passes for you to meet us. So you'll be coming backstage. Instead of leaving you'll be staying we will just have to make sure none of the fans see that you never leave. If someone does catch you will have to be a fan though."
"Fake fan. Get that right."
"Whatever. I'll go talk with our management and get that stuff set up for you."
"Don't tell anyone."
"Secret is safe with me. I've kept your Twitter love a secret."
"Fuck you. No fangirling or love was done. You saw for yourself." He just laughed.
"See you soon." He hung up and so did I.
I shouldn't have been driving and talking anyways. Who really follows the rules? Clearly I didn't.
