The sound of my heels clacking against the wooden floor as I paced back and forth kept me a little distracted. I kept running a million different scenarios through my head about how this could turn out. This could turn out horrible or maybe I was just overreacting. Finding out your ex boyfriend is getting married soon felt like just a horrible nightmare created specifically in a Nicolas Spark's movie.

We broke up a year ago, but still.. getting that invitation in the mail. The small chalk white envelope with Maya Hart written in beautiful golden colored handwriting. I thought it was a mistake at first. Who invites their ex girlfriend to their wedding? Apparently it wasn't a mistake when Riley came in with a large grin from ear to ear holding her's. She explained that Josh still sees me as a family friend with the addition of the title ex girlfriend.

I wanted it to work. I wanted it to work so bad. Maybe it was the wrong time? The wrong place? We both tried our hardest or at least I did. We had our good days and special moments. Then finding out from your best friend what he did one night. A few missed text leads to a few missed calls. We kinda knew it was over, before saying anything. I still loved him with all my heart, but I couldn't go through it again. We didn't talk for a good month or so till I decided to call him.

The doorbell ringing caused me to come back to reality. I walked towards the door and saw two figures standing there. It wasn't Riley. Why did she have to go to the store now? I would rather have her with me while I meet Josh's fiancé. I took a small breath before opening the door to reveal the familiar dark haired male with a strange blonde. A smile appeared on his lips upon seeing me.

"Hey." I greeted him with a small smile.

"Woah. You look beautiful." His eyes lit up as he looked down at my clothes which caused me to blush a little. A cough caused our attention to change and I looked at the blonde who had a fake smile on her face.

"Oh. Maya this is Juliet, my wonderful fiancé. Juliet this is Maya, Riley's best friend and my ex girlfriend."

I silently groaned hearing ex girlfriend as if he needed to point that fact out. He didn't seem unfazed but I could tell Juliet was annoyed.

"It's nice to meet you." I offered with the biggest fake grin I could ever make.

"Likewise," she looked away from me, "where is Riley? I thought we were supposed to meet her."

I gritted my teeth at her words but managed to stay calm.

"She actually went to go get you two a small engagement gift, but feel free to come inside and wait." I offered as I opened the door fully allowing them entrance.

Josh shook off the snow on his jacket and removed his scarf. Juliet did the same thing as they followed me to the living room. I took this as a chance to get a good luck at her. She was long blonde hair with icy blue eyes. She was wearing a dress with stockings even though it was freezing tonight.

"So.. How have you been?"

I noticed the way her arm wrapped around Josh's whenever he spoke to me.

"Good. I graduate next year, which is always good. Riley and I have been trying to paint the house a bit mor-"

"I was just thinking it could use a bit more color but I didn't wanna say anything."

I scoffed under my breath hearing her interrupt my sentence.

"Maya. When Josh told me you two used to date I was so surprised. You seem so young."

"I'm twenty. We are only three years apart, but I understand I was just as surprised to hear he was getting married. He seems so young."

She clenched her jaw hearing my snarky remark.

"Will you be coming alone?"

Josh looked between me and her. I locked eyes with him as if I was pleading for him to get her to stop, but he didn't seem to notice. I signed and rolled my eyes at her question.

"Actually. I have a boyfriend."

His eyes widened and she seemed amused at my words.

"Who?" They asked at the same time. Which caused her to frown at Josh then towards me.

"It really isn't any of your business who, ex boyfriend, but if you must know. Lucas."

I internally screamed when the name came out my lips. I wished I hadn't mention anything about having a boyfriend. Fuck.

"Lucas? Texas Lucas? The guy you liked in high school? The one who liked you and Riley?" I raised my eyebrows hearing Josh.

"My Lucas you mean. We stayed in touch when we graduated in high school. We've been together for two months." I replied sharply as I heard another knock on the door.

"I can't wait to see him." He said smugly.
