It had now been a week since I told everyone about Lucas having feelings for Riley again. Lucas had called me now and then, but I never answered. I didn't wanna talk to him and I knew he just wanted an explanation for everything. I just couldn't look him in the eyes anymore without thinking about him and Riley.
I was home alone tonight. Riley was spending the night at Farkle's house and I didn't try to convince her to stay. I tried to clean up my room a bit to get my mind off of things and ended up having the small polaroid photo fall from my pocket. It was of Lucas and I kissing at the restaurant. I was smiling against his lips as if I was gonna laugh and he was holding onto me tightly.
Ugh.
I got up from my floor and put the picture on the dresser when I heard the doorbell ring. I walked downstairs unsure of who it was. Maybe Riley forgot something. I peeked through the window and noticed it wasn't Riley's car or Lucas'. I opened the door to reveal Josh. I was confused. Why was he here? Where was his girlfriend?
"Josh." I spoke calmly as I looked up at him.
"Maya." He said in a low voice as he rubbed the back of his neck.
"What's wrong?"
"I was just driving around and noticed the light on. I just wanted to talk." He whispered.
Just talk? There was nothing wrong with that.. Right? I fully opened the door so he could come in and I closed the door behind me. We were just gonna talk. No harm in that. The house was dark, since I was downstairs, but my room light was on. We walked upstairs and he sat on the bed as I finished fixing my room.
"Maya." He started. "I'm scared."
"Wait. What?" I asked in confusion as I turned to look at him.
"I'm getting married. I'm 23 and I'm getting married."
"You love her, Josh."
"Maybe I rushed into it all."
"Why did you ask her to marry you then?"
"Cause I thought she was the one. I thought since she helped me pick up the pieces after we broke up. That she could be the one."
"Josh. When we broke up it was mutual. You cheated on me."
I laid down on the other side of him as we talked.
"I know. You don't understand how much I regret it. I was young and stupid. If I could do it all over I would. I wouldn't have went to that dumb party. I wouldn't have been alone with some random girl that I don't even remember their name. I wouldn't have cheated on you."
