"You've been a little off." Nate said while Genesis and himself were eating dinner at their dinner table.
genesis looked up from her plate, slowly. she was picking at her food with her fork.
"are you okay? is something going on."
Genesis shook her head. "I'm fine Nate."
"you've been off these couple of weeks, Gen. Did something go wrong with Adrian?"
"No, no. nothing like that." she shook her head once again. "Really babe, it's nothing."
Nate sighed, continuing to eat his meal. He watched Genesis's actions. Nate brought his eyes down to her plate; her food was untouched.
"Gen, eat." Nate said.
"You know, I'm not that hungry tonight. I think I'll just go to bed early." She stood up from her chair but Nate stopped her.
"Genesis, sit down and eat! Now!"
Genesis sat back down on her seat.
Nate sighed, "Look, I don't know what's been going on with you. You're not talking to me and I'm okay with that. I've been patient with that. But, you haven't eaten a good meal since the day before yesterday. You're worrying me. Please, just eat."
Genesis shook her head.
"baby..." Nate sighed. "what's going on with you."
"nothing Nate. nothing's been going on with me. I don't mean to worry you. I don't mean to." Genesis said. "but I'm tired... and I want to sleep. let me sleep."
Genesis voice cracked.
"I want to sleep! I want to sleep! I just want to sleep! I'm lying to myself that everything is going to be okay! I can't do it anymore ! I'm sorry Nate. I'm so, so sorry. please!" Genesis began to sob in her seat.
Nate quickly got up and went to her, wrapping her in his arms and rubbing her back.
"I'm so sorry. So, so sorry." Her head was in the crook of Nate's neck. "I'm sorry."
"sh, sh." Nate softly said. "Lets you get you to bed, alright?"
Nate didn't want to question her. he thought it was best to just let her sleep like she wanted and to talk about it he next day. a new day.
Nate picked her up bridal style and walked to their bedroom. he laid her down softly, putting the covers over her.
he closed the door slowly, not wanting to make much noise.
he walked back to the kitchen, sat back into his seat and continued eating.
he stared at the empty seat that his wife was sitting in seconds before.
•••••
Genesis woke up the next morning, squinting her eyes and looking around her room.
she saw that her husband wasn't next to her, thinking that he'd already went off to work.
Genesis sighed, getting up.
as soon as she lifted herself up from the bed, she felt awfully sick.
she felt nauseous and the urge to throw up.
she stayed there for a few seconds before running to the bathroom.
she lifted the toilet cover up and vomited.
once she was done, she flushed the toilet and wiped her mouth.
she was hoping that if she didn't eat so much, she wouldn't throw up the next day.
Nate walked into the bathroom, confused as to why his wife was on their bathroom floor with her head laid on her crossed arms that were on the toilet seat cover.
"Gen?" Nate said, kneeling down. he rubbed her back, her head lifting up.
"did you throw up? do you feel sick?"
"yeah, probably just the stomach flu." she lied.
Nate helped Genesis up, walking her over to the sink.
"do you want me to brush your teeth for you?" Nate asked.
"No, no." Genesis chuckled. "I can do it."
Nate nodded, watching as his wife brushed her teeth.
he took a seat on the toilet, clearing his throat.
"you were pretty intense last night." he said.
Genesis spit out the foamed tooth paste into the sink.
"I'm just... stressed." Genesis said after rinsing her mouth.
she wiped her mouth a towel then laid her side on the sink.
"is it the adoption? if it's making you-"
"no, no." Genesis sighed. "I'm thrilled about the adoption, I just-"
"gen, you haven't looked at the papers. it's been over a month."
"I know, I know."
"if you're not ready, the least you could do is tell me."
he stood up and left Genesis alone in the bathroom.
she sighed, looking down at the floor.
