chapter 1

"Ella! Ella! Ella!" Her mom called out but no answer from her end.
Ella was lost in cold thoughts. She sat by her window wearing just her pink underwear and a grey coloured tank top.
Ella! Her mom called again,
" oh ma'am! Not again, what have I done this time" ,she hurriedly put on some decent clothes and ran downstairs to meet her mom.
"Ella get down here at once, your uncle Robert is here to see you and what on earth have you been doing in there since morning?"
Ella is an unfortunate or rather fortunate girl from an average family background. Her father was enrolled into the army when she was four and she hasn't seen him since then. Her mom managed to see her through high school by
selling fairly used clothes and hawking fruits all day. Although she made the best result in Hunters high school, the thought that she might not be able to make it to college due to lack of funds grieved her all day and night. She is a charming geek beauty with blonde hair, pink lips, big emerald eyes, an attractive personality in all. She likes to make people laugh, very intelligent but is always afraid of what the future holds for her. Her mom had always warned her about such a lifestyle and had always encouraged her to always strive for the best no matter how impossible it seemed.
"Am here mom, good morning" she said to her mom as she walked into the kitchen to grab a bottle of water for herself, this was always part of her morning routine.
"Your uncle Robert is here to see you, I wonder if all is alright for he wouldn't say a word to me, he only requested to see you. He's in the living room right now...grab a cup of coffee for him, I will be with you shortly".
Ella grabbed her bottle of water and a cup of coffee for her uncle and left for the living room.

"Good morning uncle Robert", Ella said as she went close to give him a hug. Robert was Ella's favourite uncle. Rob gave her a strange smile as he reciprocated her hug.
"How have you been Ella", he said "uhm.......,good uncle Robert " she said,but something in her was a little bit worried about uncle Robert's visit ..for he hasn't visited in a long long while.
"Any news about college? "he asked "well no uncle Robert,and it's quite annoying but I will just have to be patient "she said with a sigh.
"Okay Ella let me put it this way, which university would you love to attend?"she had a university in mind but at this point any university that is available she would gladly accept,"well any college uncle Robert " she said cos she had no choice at this point.
Well that's not enough for an answer, I need you to be specific
Uncle Rob, if you insist, I would say Bloomsberg but don't forget that we are considering our financial capability here so that wouldn't be an option at the moment. Seriously uncle, the thoughts of going to college has been pretty overwhelming for me lately.., there's no money and it's really been giving me late nights...so who am I to say Bloomsberg right? She said with a sigh and a glimpse of hopelessness on her face .
Well Ella, I've always known you to be a very bright girl but as for being a pessimist, that i would not allow my dear...he said as he handed out a white envelope...well Ella, what if I told you that you had all chance of going to Bloomsberg, how would you react? He said with a proudly contented smile on his face. Ella hesitated to accept the letter.."What is this uncle? She asked.
"Go on take it, have a look , it's for you..uncle Rob insisted
Just as Ella took the envelope from him, her mom walked in from the kitchen
What have I missed, Mrs Coupar said as she walked straight to the dining table with a bowl of oatmeal and back to the kitchen to get some plates
Mr Rob on the other hand hurried to the dinning while Ella reluctantly opened the envelope.
Oh my goodness! This cannot be true! Mom, mom! Bloomsberg! Wake me up ,mom! She ran to meet her mom who was already dishing out some oatmeal to uncle Rob
"Ella are you alright! You are screaming" is everything ok? Said Ella's mom
Ella handed the letter to her as she read and gave her daughter a big hug. " I knew you could make it my angel"
Uncle Rob you are so unbelievable. ..like seriously you got me right there, she said as she briskly ran to uncle Rob to give him a big hug.
You know Ella, I wanted to make it a surprise..uncle Rob said
But how did you come about this Robert, we were not informed!" Said Mrs Coupar
You know, it beats my imagination, just three days ago, representatives from Hunters High school (Ella's former school) came to my house with this letter..from what they said Ella qualified for the scholarship since she made the best result but what beats my imagination is why they brought it to me, anyway the most important thing is that you've gotten the scholarship right, said uncle Rob
Oh yes uncle, replied Ella oh now I remember...oh no, maybe they checked my school file, remember you enrolled me into that school and it was your address you gave them I guess that's why they came to you as my guardian...Ella explained
Oh I get it, Ella's mom said
Whichever way it is, my baby, you are going to college and am so proud you made it. Well it's guess all you midnight worries paid off.

Thank you uncle Robert, I am so delighted to receive this, and oh my gosh, it is stated here that I have just a few days to commence school, Ella said as she ran upstairs into her room with so much excitement on her face for the first time since she left high school

Uncle Rob on his part quickly rushed his food and left for he was almost late for work as he only dropped by to deliver the letter to Ella while her mom packed the plates into the kitchen to tidy up.
