Chapter 25

Austin's pov: final chapter

          I've been working the night shift lately, so I haven't really been home. When I talk to Keegan I know she's feeling it. I miss her and the kids. While I laid in my bunk just looking up. Sean walked in. "Hey," he said. "Hey." "What's wrong buddy? You've been in the dumps for the past week." "I want to go home. I've been working a double and I haven't seen my wife. Every time I get home she's at work and the kids are at school." "After this shift go home." "Trust me dude I'm leaving." This shift couldn't have been so slow. I'm just ready to get home! As I laid down I called Keegan. "Hm hello," she said softly. "Hey baby girl." "Hey babe." "Are you sleeping?" "Yeah." "Well goodnight." "I love you." "I love you too baby girl." I hung up the phone. I let out this loud groan then went outside. I miss her! I miss my babies.

         When the shift finally ended I went home. I know she has the day off so I'm excited to surprise her. When I got home I unlocked the door. I went to drop my things in the laundry room then went upstairs. I poked my head into the twins room. I guess Keegan took the children to school. I went in the room and showered then went downstairs. I made decided to make fruit salad. While I was cutting up fruit I heard the front door shut. "Austin," Keegan said. I smiled as I walked out the kitchen. She rushed over and hugged me. "Hey baby girl." "I missed you so much." "I know." I cupped Keegan's cheeks. She has the biggest smile on her face. I pressed my lips into hers. So warm and inviting. Keegan deepened the kiss. I couldn't help but smile. "Oh I missed you baby girl," I said. "I missed you too." "I was just about to eat but that can wait. Now that I get to hug and kiss my baby girl." "Asa asked about you this morning." "Oh I can't wait to see them. I miss my boys and my little girl so much!" "Well you can go get them from school and take them to soccer practice while I take Alexa to her pediatrician." "Is she ok?" "She's been telling me her ear hurts so I told her if it doesn't feel better when I go to pick her up I'll take to see her doctor." I nodded.

      I spent my morning cuddling with Keegan on the couch. I'm glad she had the day off. Around noon I went to get the boys while Keegan went to get Lexa and take to the doctors. When I got outside the school went inside to Wesley and Asa's class. Wesley was running around while Asa played with Hannah. "Asa its daddy," Wesley said while running over to me. I hugged him as Asa ran over and jumped on me. "Hey." "Do you have to go to work tonight?" "No I'm off for the next couple of days but don't tell mommy its a surprise." They both nodded. Hannah walked over. "Hey Mr. Rose," she said. "Hi Hannah." "See ya Wesley. Bye Asa." Asa gave Hannah a hug then we left. I took the boys to soccer practice. Their practice was longer than expected.

     When we got home Keegan and Alexa were on the couch. "Mommy," said the boys. "Shh Lexa doesn't feel well." "What's wrong with her," I asked? "Ear infection." I sat next to Keegan as she told me about Alexa's medicine. Keegan gave her to me as she went to bathe the boys. Not even ten minutes went by before I saw their naked butts running from Keegan. "Austin get your sons," she laughed. Keegan was cracking up. "I can't even be mad at them," she said. I smiled. I live for moments like this. "Wesley and Asa," I said. They looked at me. "Go get in the bath. Your sister doesn't need to see guys like this." They walked upstairs. "Thank you," Keegan said. She kissed me then went upstairs. "Did mommy give you bath yet," I asked? Alexa shook her head yes. She's just not herself. I want her to feel better. I kissed the top of Alexa's head.

       Once Alexa was asleep I took her upstairs and put her in her room. Keegan was asleep when I went in our room. I took off her glasses and book then put them on the nightstand. I cut off the light then crawled into bed. During the night Alexa woke up calling Keegan. "Mommy," she cried. "Mommy." Keegan got out of bed. I waited for Keegan to com back but she didn't so I went to check in them. They weren't in Lexa's so I went downstairs. Alexa was in pain. Ear infections hurt so bad and my little angel is hurting. Keegan paced the kitchen floor with Alexa in her arms. "Shh baby, she whispered. "I know it hurts but you have to stop crying and let the medicine work." Alexa just cried. I walked completely down the steps. "Look it's daddy," Keegan said. Alexa looked at me then clung to Keegan. "I'll put on the kettle," I said. "Thank you." I kissed Keegan's temple.

       The night was long but around sunrise Alexa finally went to sleep and so did Keegan and I. We passed out on the couch. When I woke up the next morning Wesley and Asa made themselves breakfast. They made a mess. "Daddy we made breakfast," Wesley said. "You guys also made a mess. Did you brush your teeth?" They both nodded. I helped washed their hands then cleaned up the mess. "Austin," Keegan said. "Hmm?" "Can you take Lexa upstairs?" "Uh yeah." I quickly finished cleaning up then went to take Alexa to her room. The boys were playing in the back yard. When I got back downstairs Keegan finished cleaning up. "You're on your own," she said. "For what?" "Breakfast." "I'll just go get pancakes." "If you go can you get some for me?" "You know it baby girl." I threw on a hoodie and my slippers then left.

      You never can go wrong with pancakes. When I got to the diner they knew my order right off the back. I paid for it then went home. When I got home Keegan was in the kitchen with a crying Alexa. I'll be glad when she gets rid of this ear infection. I hate seeing her like this. "Look there's daddy," Keegan said. Alexa looked at me then reached for me. I put the pancakes down then took her. "I got pancakes," I said. "I want pancake." I ate with Alexa and Keegan. The boys came in. "I want pancakes," they said in unison. Keegan fixed them a plate then went upstairs. "Daddy do you love mommy," Asa asked? "Of course. Why?" "What is love?" "A feeling nobody can describe." I kissed Asa's head then in the living room. Alexa walked over and laid with me. She's my little angel. "How you feeling baby," I said. "My ear hurts." "Is the medicine helping?" Alexa shook her head yes. Keegan sat next to me. Wesley crawled onto Keegan's lap and Asa squeezed in between us.

      I just smiled. Nothing can get better than this.
