A Day In The Life

Chapter 23

Austin's pov....

         I sat in the fire house chatting with Sean. He's a kid trapped inside a grown man's body. He's such a clown. He keeps me company since I'm still new to this whole fire thing. "Hey so how's the family," he asked? "Uh they're good thanks for asking." "I can't believe you're twenty one and you're married with three kids. I'm twenty five and I can't even keep a girl." I laughed. "Well maybe because you act like a three year old and you let your looks go to your head." "How'd you meet your wife?" "In a hospital." "You both were in the hospital?" "No she was I think she had surgery and I was her tutor at the time." "Tutor? You're such a nerd." "But he's my nerd," Keegan said. I smiled as I stood up and kissed her. "What are you doing here," I asked? "Since you're working late I bought you dinner." "Where's the kids?" "With Steve." "McGarrett," Sean asked? "Yeah." "You know him?" "He's my father." Sean laughed. Keegan and I looked him. "Oh you were being serious. He arrested me one night for disorderly conduct." "And yet you work for the state of Hawaii." I gave Keegan a kiss. "I'll see you later." "I love you." "I love you too."

     When Keegan left I put my food in the fridge. "Man your wife is hot," Sean said. "That's why she's mine." "I knew you were going to say some cheesy shit like that." "Don't be looking at her next time she come up here." Sean walked off. We had a call for a brush fire. It wasn't much work. When we got back I laid in my bunk and called Keegan. It was getting late so she might be asleep. "Hello," she said. "Hey?" "Mmh hey?" "Are you asleep?" "Uh no I'm up making the kids a late night snack." "I miss you guys." "We miss you too." "Can I talk to them?" "Of course." Keegan gave the phone to Alexa. "Hello daddy," she said. "Hey princess." "Are you coming home?" "In the morning but you'll be asleep." "I love you Ace wants you." "Ok I love you too." She passed the phone to Asa. "Hi daddy," he said. "What's up my little book worm." "Are you working late at night again?" "Yeah." "Oh ok." "I love you." "I love you too here's Wes." He passed the phone to Wesley. "Daddy!" "Hey buddy." "I'm eating crackers and cheese." 'I wish I was eating crackers and cheese." Wesley laughed. "Tomorrow when you come home can we go to the park?" "I'll see what I can do." "Ok I love you." "I love you too. Give the phone to mommy." Wes passed the phone to Keegan. "Hey," she said. "I wish I was there with you guys." "Duty calls baby." "I know. I love you baby girl." "I love you too babe." She hung up.

       The night was long and dreaded. I got off around 5:30am. When I got home Keegan was in the kitchen with Alexa. She must've been up all night with her. "Is she ok," I asked? "Yeah slight fever nothing we haven't dealt with before." I gave my sleeping beauty a kiss before I kissed my lovely wife. "I'll take care of her you can go to bed," I said. "Nah you worked all night. I got it." I kissed them both before going upstairs. I peaked in the boys room. They were asleep of course. I gave the a kiss but before I left Asa called my name. "Daddy," he whispered. "Yes?" "Can I sleep with you?" "Sure." I went back and picked him up the went in my room. I changed then laid down. Asa
laid on my chest as I kissed his head then went to sleep. When I woke up later on that day Asa was laying on my chest quietly reading. "Whatcha reading," I asked? "Uh one of the books you and mommy for me." "Read some of it to me." "Ok." As Asa read to me Keegan came upstairs. "She's finally asleep," Keegan said. Keegan laid down. As soon as her head hit the pillow she was asleep.

      I went in the room with Wesley. He was coloring. "Daddy," he said. "Hey." "Lexa is sick and mommy is sleeping." "I know now come give me a kiss." I kneeled down as Wesley ran into my arms. He kissed my cheek. "I love you." "I love you too. I drew you a picture." Wesley gave me a photo of him playing with a puppy. "Are you trying to tell me something," I asked? "I want a puppy." "I'll think about it." Wesley went to finish coloring. I went downstairs to see a yellow posted note on the counter. It was from Keegan. It said:" lunch for you and the kids is in the fridge. Clean up when you're finished. - your wife." Wesley and Asa came downstairs with Alexa. "She was crying and we didn't want her wake mommy," Ace said. I picked up Alexa. I needed to suction the snot out her nose. She hates that but I need to clean her nose. I swaddled Alexa then sat on the couch and laid her across my lap. I grabbed the suction thingy and cleaned her nose. She cried. "I know," I said. "I want mommy!" "I'm almost finish."

      As I cleaned Alexa's nose Keegan came downstairs. Keegan let me finish them I unwrapped Alexa and gave her to Keegan. She buried her face into Keegan's shirt. "I don't miss sleepless nights," Keegan said. "I know baby girl." I went in the kitchen and made the boys lunch. We sat down and ate. Keegan fed Alexa. I took Alexa so Keegan can eat. After lunch I took the boys to the park. Keegan stayed with Lexa at home. We spent an hour there.

      When we got home the twins woke up Keegan. She went upstairs and slammed the door shut. "Is mommy mad," Wesley asked? "I'm not sure." I went upstairs. Keegan was in the bathroom. She had the sink water running. I knocked on the door. "Baby girl," I said. "Go away!" "Open the door." Keegan ignored me. I opened the door to see her standing in the mirror. I cut off the water. "What's wrong baby girl?" She ignored me. "Keegan talk to me please," I said. "I don't want to talk right now." "Keegan?" "Austin I said I didn't want to talk! Just leave me alone!" I turned around and walked out the room. I went downstairs to see Asa reading and Wesley sitting with Alexa watching cartoons. Keegan stayed upstairs. I gave the children a bath then put tucked them in. I went in my room as Keegan walked out. Guess she was saying goodnight.

       When she got back she went in the closet and changed then laid down. "Will you talk to me," I asked? "There's nothing to talk about." "If you're not going to tell me what's wrong I'm sleeping in a different room." "Go it's not like you love me anyways!" I sat up as Keegan began to cry. "Keegan what's going on," I asked? She sat up. As I wiped away her tears. "I'm always going to love you." "I'm trying to be the best wife and mother but so much is going on. I'm stressed. I barely get to see you. With the children I'm being pulled three different directions. I just want a day where I can relax and have nothing to worry about." I kissed Keegan. "If anything is ever bothering don't be afraid to tell me and don't ever say I don't love you again." Keegan just looked at me. I can see she's stressed. Everyone in this house depends on her including me. I gave her one last kiss then we both went to sleep.

So I think I have an idea for my next book but I'm not going to say anything until I finish this book. It's a surprise.
