fourteena poem about falling in love

when i was 14, i fell in love
with a boy who offered me ice cream
brown eyes, tousled hair, wide smile
dirty uniform and mud on his shoes
he waved his hand in front of my face
because i was freezing,
and the ice cream was melting.

love was simple and easy
doing homework and escaping classes
bookstore-dating after school
writing love letters for each other
secretly holding hands under the desk
and stealing kisses in the back row

love was pure and innocent
screaming love songs on roller coasters
buying cheap drinks with no money
carving pinky promise on the top of ferris wheel
running recklessly and laughing,
laughing out so loud

he made me alive,
but i was naive
i thought i had a chance
i thought we could make it work
but he walked away
and left a beautiful scar of first love

when i was 14, i fell in love
with a boy who offered me fairytale
but we were too young
