she drew pastel castle
on his black and white life;
a pastel castle beneath the orange haze
at a bend in crystal turquoise river
creole pink on its walls and trench
darker shade on corbel and cornice
bailey covered by white dandelions
flying bridge cloaked in lilac cotton-candy cloud
sparkling unicorns at the entrance
soldiers on the battle parapet to keep him safe
but he only saw gray arid moor.
she drew pastel castle
on his black and white life;
where golden sun sets in the east
magic mint splashes peace
and trauma gets washed away by rainbow caprice
she served watercolor bliss on a silver platter
recorded mauve lullabies on technicolor vinyl
soothed heartache with iced periwinkle
but he walked away.
she drew pastel castle
on his black and white life;
but he was colorblind.
