"Avia..." I managed to croak out, just loud enough for everyone in the car to hear, still in shock by the name choice.
Mom, dad and Gavin knew why I was in shock, but Brock and Daxton were oblivious.
"Em..." Mom said, as she turned around trying to comfort me.
Everyone in the family knew that I was taking Avia's death the worst, seeing as she is my only sister, for now at least. I think my parents expected my reaction to be this way.
Mom continued, "I know that this going to be hard for you, but your dad and I thought that it would be a good way to honor Avia. She would be so happy. And even though Willow won't meet her biggest sister, she will always know where her name came from."
"Right. For Avia." I said.
The rest of the car ride to my party was mostly silent. Brock and Daxton were playing with their action figures together, Gavin was reading and mom and dad were talking about who knows what. I couldn't stop thinking about Avia. And Willow. No matter how hard I tried.
We were about five minutes away from my party place when I started to sob. I couldn't help it. I needed my sister to be here for me. I needed her comforting hugs and her warm smile. I needed to see her reaction to her name being chosen. I needed her.
Mom turned around. "Em...", she whispered.
I don't think mom knew exactly how much I had been suffering without my sister.
I looked up at her, still sobbing uncontrollably. "I'm sorry..." I manage to say in between cries.
"Don't be sorry sweetie," mom said, "I understand."
My crying went on and I couldn't stop, no matter how hard I tried. At this point, even Brock and Daxton were trying to comfort me. I felt terrible. This was supposed to be a happy day, but I was turning it around.
Dad was driving, trying to make me laugh. It wasn't working. Then dad did the unthinkable and turned around. He looked at me and patted my knee.
"Em—"He started to say.
"SHAY!" Mom screamed before he could finish.
But before dad could turn around, I heard a loud crash and everything went black.
