It was morning now and the light of the sun was bleeding through the apartments windows. Raph walked into the office where he found Kylee typing some story of hers and coping off a written manuscript. He walked over and leaned on the chairs back, waking Kylee from whatever world she’d entered. “Morning” She looked up at him and then back at the monitor, continuing to type. “Did you stay the night or somethin’?”
“Yeah, me and Becca both. By the time you came home it was late and we were both lazy. Damn, I still can’t believe that cheap jerk has known about us fer years…”
“Hey, watch it. That’s my new buddy yer talkin’ about Raph. Give him some respect he’s a good guy and he did keep your secret.”
“Like I care.” Raph sat in the chair by the bookcase coolly, Kylee shook her head smiling. I can’t believe Hawkins got me to admit it…I mean really. At least I don’t have to tell Raph right? I don’t ever have to tell him. Maybe one day I will, but I don’t see that being any time soon. “Well you should stupid. He could have sold you guys out ya know.” Raph considered this and shrugged bringing the chair closer to the computer and Kylee. “What’cha writin’?”
“See for yourself. I’m not optimistic though that you’ll like it.” Kylee rolled out of Raphs way a bit and he sarcastically smiled at her. “Well let’s see then;
‘The night was cold when Hannibal woke. His head was still bleeding and he was bitterly sore. He was far to dizzy to stand on his feet or even his knees for that matter. He could see the castle of McDuncun in the distance, its flag still proudly waving. This made him surge with pride; he and the men had done their duty and defended their patriarch and his new son and daughters. A cold and faint hand touched his fore arm and he turned his head. MARION! The small woman smiled weakly at him, bleeding profusely. “I thought you’d never wake up, Hannibal. I…I grew worried you’d left without me.” Hannibal wished he could only speak to her, if only he’d been born with a voice to ease her pain. He reached out to her, holding Marion’s hand gingerly. Why had she chosen to be out here when the battle surged, and not at home in the castle walls.
Her breathing was heavy and labored, her eyes filled with pain and love. “Hannibal, dearest Hannibal… how I care for so.” She breathed, wincing in agony. Hannibal felt her growing colder and colder, he dragged himself closer to Marion. She smiled her eyes closing in contentment; Marion’s breathing became shallower until it finally stopped. Hannibal felt the deepest anguish as he lay next to his lady love for the longest of times. A search for survivors finally went out and he was brought to the healer. Yet he would always feel that emptiness of the loss of Marion
And that my friends, is the end’
Dang! Kid you know how to kill someone don’t you?”
Kylee laughed a little looking at him. “I’m better at demented characters and I know how to end something in sorrow, I mean it’s been my profession for years now.”
“I thought that was being a nurse?”
“Well sure, but writings my second profession.”
Raph nodded, understanding her somewhat. Some humans had two passions that they followed, Kylee was one of them. Becca came walking in, rubbing her eyes and smiling. “Now what are you two doing up? We were up so late last night I didn’t expect us to be up until three in the afternoon.”
“Na, I’m a nocturnal person anyway. I was finishing up this book I’ve been working on for the last few months. Raph wanted to read the end.”
“Cheater.”
Raph sighed, dropping his shoulders. There was a bing from the computer
And they looked at the screen. “Oh, it’s an email from papa-this oughta be good.” Kylee said opening the window. Becca and Raph looked as Kylee’s eyes scanned the computer, growing more and more distressed. Her eyes popped open, Kylee made a quake sound and fell back in the chair, startling the two beside her. As Raph looked down at Kylee, Becca looked at ht screen.
