It was a cold unfeeling day. Everyone went to Dons place to decide what to do. Mikey was a nervous wreck, he was pacing back and forth, back and forth and for once Becca couldn’t calm him down. Leo was sitting, slouching over himself and meditating on what he saw the other night, his fingers tapping the arm of the chair. Donny was looking into a microscope at the blood samples he’d taken last night, trying to identify the blood on the ground and the blood on the sai-with Raph you just never knew for certain. Kylee was still absent. Last night was really a shocker to her and she’d had a hard time coming to terms with what she’d seen. Don had stayed with her most of the night until she fell into a fitful sleep.
The same questions were running through every ones head; where was Raph? Who attacked him? Why did the tracks lead to a dead end? How long had he been gone before they noticed? They heard a crash of the manhole lid down the tunnel, followed by a splashing noise a few minutes. Kylee showed up with Hawkins right behind her. “Don, blood analysis. What’cha find big guy” Kylee demanded walking over to Don and standing over him. The turtle looked up then back at his samples. “Well it’s not good news. That large portion of blood we found was Raphael’s. That and I can’t identify the blood on the sai. It’s not his; I don’t know whose it is.”
“Damn! Is there anything you could do to get a good guess?”
“Nope. I would usually check police files but they don’t do blood work, only figure prints, and there were none of those.”
“Dammit. So what can we do? Leo-what’s the plan, fearless leader?” Kylee turned to Leo who shrugged. He was still thinking, hardly paying attention to anything but his own thoughts. He started to think allowed. “ That trail….it just ended, no drippings no nothin’ to say he was attacked further or escaped…it just ended…he left us nor anyone else any clues.”
“That’s not completely true.” Kylee said darkly, folding her arms and leaning against a beam. All eyes were on her and the room went dead silent. “While we were walking back away from the trail, as Don got his blood samples, I saw something in the snow. I thought it was just me seeing things. But I could have swore that I saw, in Raphs handwriting, a message that said; I’ll be okay. That’s it, just that. Not very helpful I know, but that’s what I saw.” Everyone thought a moment. Mikey started groaning miserably and covered his face and paced faster, Leo thought harder, Donny tried to think on why Raph would say that and not a clue that only they’d understand on how to find him, Kylee went to the punching bag and let out some of her fury real quick.
“Well, it seems obvious, doesn’t it?” Hawkins said cryptically, and everyone shot looks at him, he shrugged and went on. “Raph doesn’t want to be found, body or anything. He’s doing something, protecting something. Maybe something happened, maybe he is dead but was too proud to let you guys see him all battered up.”
“Don’t be an idiot Hawkins! He’d want his family to know if he was okay or not. Donny, I just had an idea. If that bloods not Raphs, on the sai I mean, could you check for skin samples? Maybe that could help. And while Donny’s doing that, we’re going to search for Raphael-all day if we have to-human or no, he has to be somewhere in New York! We’ll check every underground operation there is, every criminal who knows about you guys. Mikey, your with Leo-you guys go check Shredders old place and the area around it, Becca and Hawkins- you check out the mobs territory, I’ll go check the purple dragons turf and we meet up at my place to figure out a new plan if we find nothing.” Kylee ordered.
It was like when Raph disappeared, Kylee started taking charge again, trying to find the best way to find her missing master. “Hold up a sec sissy” Becca said, tapping her foot against the floor and looking at Kylee. “Why are you going all alone? Frankly I don’t trust you when yer like this-you tend to do stupid stuff. I’d feel better if Don went with you.”
