Kylee was in her office typing up her monthly reports. Her mind was wondering into places she’d rather not be. She wasn’t dreaming this time, she was awake and life had gone on almost normally. Five years…it had been five years since Raph disappeared, and life was different now. She and Becca had been promoted. Becca was now a director and Kylee a doctor. The girls were busier and Becca and Mike had adopted a little girl when she was one. Everyone helped once a year to keep Raphs place clean. That nightmare she had years ago still scared Kylee. Imagining the skeleton of Raphael…Kylee didn’t want to even imagine it ever again. The phone rang and she groaned. “Uhg, what now? When do those damned people stop calling?” Kylee banged her head on the desk at the incisive ringing. It was breaking her already lacking train of thought. This chapter was giving Kylee a real kick in the butt. She was annoyed. It’s nine thirty at night and she’s having a brain fart on a chapter she needed to finish, her publisher was already jumping down her throat-oh the punishment of being a well written author.

Geeze I really need ta finish this last chapter or my publishers gonna flip…but I could go for an ice cream cone about now…chapter, ice cream, chapter, ice cream, chapter, ice cream? It wouldn’t take that long to pop down to the park, grab a cone and pop back…. and besides I need a break anyway. If I’m not working at the clinic then I’m working on my books or Donny’s projects…it won’t hurt to get a little air. Kylee reasoned grabbing her keys. She looked at the window out of habit, seeing if one of the guys was there. All day she’d gotten the feeling she was being watched. She blamed the story she was working on. The character was being watched and Kylee often took on her characters personality for a while after writing. Leaving the window open in case one of the guys came to visit she left with her sunglasses and rollerblades. Kylee grabbed her phone and started skating down the hall.

“Yo Hawkins, I wanna treat my two favorite guys to ice cream down at Fred’s, ya there? Excellent.” She said quickly. She was about to call Don when she nearly ran over Odysseus, and made an escape, or at least tried.

“Miss Cook, where are you off to in such a hurry” He said. He wasn’t stuttering and Kylee didn’t want to jinx her luck by telling him.

“Look I gotta run, Oddie. I got a date I need ta make!”

“A date? With whom?”

“Friends! Oddie I gotta go, If I’m late he’ll be complaining and won’t drop it!” Kylee laughed, thinking about Hawkins fun personality and how he would pout playfully.

“Oh, your broodish dark friend, Raph was it?”

Kylee froze, her face dropped and she just stood there.

“Yes, I haven’t seen him around here for a while. How’s he been?” Odysseus said semi darkly, trying to fight a hateful look because obviously ‘Miss Cook’ was fond of that man and Oddie didn’t want to hurt her by insulting the guy.

“Why don’tcha ask him”

“What?”

“Nothin’” Kylee perked up again, turning and smiling brightly. “Na it’s not him, Don and Hawkins actually.”

Now Oddie liked them. They were good men in his opinion, though, Hawkins was a little rough around the edges and could use lessons in edict. “Now Oddie, can I get going? Hate ta keep them waiting ya know.”

“Right, have a nice time Miss Cook”

“Night Oddie!”

She started skating down the hall, thinking of other things besides Raph. She wouldn’t allow her mind to go there. But since it did, Kylee was grateful that she forgot to call Donny. “Hey greaser”
