One by One Chapter 15
Drew’s POV
As soon as I had my teacher’s okay to be dismissed, I raced out of the classroom. Gosh, I knew we were gonna get in trouble! I had a feeling that today would be one of the days that the teacher loses her temper and punishes me, and what do you know? I was right. I shook my head and chuckled at the irony.
I ran my fastest down the stairs, to my locker. For some reason, Cory always got ready way too quickly, while I just… took my time. Like I went really slow. I grabbed my jacket, and slammed my locker closed, knowing if I didn’t hurry, I’d have to take the metro alone (which sucked, because I usually got bored since there was no one to talk to, and I always forget my ipod at home). I stopped to talk to a couple of friends, who were the only ones in the hall since the bell rang 15 minutes ago, for about 5 minutes.
By the time I got out of the now empty building, Cory was way ahead, so far that I’d probably only be able to catch up with him at the metro. He walked really fast as well, which wouldn’t help. Oh, whatever, I’d probably have to take the metro alone.
I zipped up my hoodie, realizing that it was windy as the wind whipped my face. I looked at the assorted colour of leaves on the ground. One thing I really loved about Canada was all the leaves in the fall. You couldn’t get that in Miami, where I lived 3 years ago.
I missed Florida, but I was happy to live here as well. I especially loved all the people I’d met in the past years here, like Jen and our friends. Besides, home is where the family is, and if my dad was happy with his job here, then I was happy too.
By the time I got passed the card scanners, I realised Cory was still waiting there, and I could hear the metro. Then I noticed something. There was a creepy dude with a hoodie on, and he was pacing close behind Cory. He kept turning his head to see if anyone was nearby and looking at him suspiciously, since rush hour traffic was over, while Cory obliviously was on his iphone, probably talking to Kirsten. The guy gave me a weird vibe, like he was plotting to do something bad. Something was wrong I could sense it. Then it hit me.
A creepy guy, looking around, while pacing dangerously close behind Cory, just before the next metro arrived? This sick b*st*rd was going to push Cory in! I yelled out to warn him, and rushed down the many stairs. “CORY! CORY TURN AROUND! CORY! HURRY! LOOK BEHIND YOU!” I screamed. “CORYYYYY!!” I ran down the stairs, 2 at a time, as the metro was just coming through the tunnel.
Just as the guy leaned forward to push, I grabbed his shirt. At the same time, Cory turned his head around. But I was too little too late. The guy’s hand had already come in to contact to Cory, pushed him hard enough for Cory to stumble. Since the metro was so close, he’d move past the line. He unsuccessfully tried to regain his balance, and fell into the metro tracks.
The cart screeched to a stop, barely slamming into Cory’s face. But the giant car’s impact was still enough to make many deep cuts, large, dark bruises, cause the cracking sound of breaking bones, blood drip down him, and cause Cory to howl in extreme agony. He was definitely going to die, if not already dead.
I ripped my eyes off Cory’s body, and looked back at the guy I was unconciously holding back. The astound expression escaped my face, and turned into outrage. I called him a bunch of bad names that I wont describe and punched him in the face as hard as I could as many times as I could.
Soon we were both beating the crap out of each other. I’d get some good punches, and somehow we’d rotate. I think I got more shots at him, but eventually, when he got on top of me, he got me at the balls, and he jumped up as well.
No no no no no, there was no way this guy was trying to get away. I got all my strength to get up, and slowly jog, which was extremely difficult, given the position he’d just put me in, and tried to catch up with him. It was no use, since he was easily sprinting. He drove off. He got away.
I stopped, and plopped myself onto the benches outside the metro, to let the pain subside a bit. But not before I got a good look at his face.
He had icy blue eyes, darkish brown hair, and a somewhat large nose. He was really tall, like 6’1 or 6’2, and looked extremely familiar. Not as if I met him before, but kinda like someone I knew or something. I knew he looked and sounded like someone I knew really well, but it wouldn’t click. Who is this guy? Who was he related to? Why did he choose Cory? I got up, pacing furiously, for a while, with all of the these questions still rushing through my head. Finally, I sighed, searched through my pockets and pulled out up my now ringing Blackberry.
“Hey” Kirsten’s voice came on the line, kind shaky. “Do you know if Cory’s alright?” she asked. I was silent for a couple of seconds. “No. He’s dead” I spat icily and hung up right away.
As soon as I found out who this sick b*st*rd was, I would really make him suffer for murdering my best friend.
Sorry for the late upload! One day late! I wrote this yesterday but it was alost 2 in the morning, so I was too tired to upload it. So here's my Christmas gift to you all! Happy Holidays!
