After getting Maya to bed Luke went back to the living room and found that Ford was already there waiting for him.
He took a seat beside him on the sofa and then without waiting a beat he began speaking.
"What did you do with him?" was the first thing that came out of his mouth.
"I have a few contacts", Ford said.
" He should be in the middle of the Sahara desert by now", Ford continued a huge smile spreading across his face.
Luke couldn't help but to laugh along with him.
"Serves him right," Luke said with a smirk on his face.
"The question is what did Maya do that caused all this?" Ford said.
"She didn't do anything", Luke replied with a certain bite to his words.
Ford sat and waited knowing that he would get nothing out of Luke if he pushed him.
" Don't you see that I'm the one that did something!!" Luke exclaimed jumping to his feet.
"What did you do?" Ford calmly asked.
"I left OK! When she needed me the most I wasn't there! I left her! She called for me but I wasn't there!", he shouted, frustrated, to his friend.
Ford stared at him quite astonished at the tears gathered in his friend's eyes.
"I promised I would always be there. That I would always protect her, that I'd be her angel in disguise. But I failed her.
If she hadn't fought, if she hadn't, I wouldn't have her. That bastard would have taken her from me. He would have destroyed her", he said tears running quietly and unbidden and unmistakable down his handsome face.
Ford gave him a minute to gather himself before he attempted to speak.
"It is not your fault, Luke," he said quietly to his friend.
"Things happen because they were ordained by God to happen. Nothing that happens in life occurs offhandedly.
Nothing is chance. There is nothing as people being in the wrong or right place at any time. Everything in life happens to make us stronger.
Whatever happened to Maya in her life was to strengthen her for something else later down in her life and in spite of how strong you are or the promises you made to her God's purpose must and will be fulfilled."
Luke fell down on the sofa sobs racking his body. Ford looked up at that moment and saw the only woman his friend has ever loved standing in the passage wiping her tears away.
He smiled and nodded at her then quietly made his way out of the room.
She moved slowly towards the man crying on the sofa. She fell down before his form and touched his knee. He lifted his head and when he saw her he fell on his knees and wrapped his arms around her.
They held each other as they cried and they had never been closer than they were in that my moment.
The truth of the matter is that what is to happen will. It matters not our disposition, or occupation or our place in society.
No one can hide from God. He is no respecter of persons. He values not our money or our level of education. He touches everyone.
Our purposes in life must be fulfilled in spite of what we think. But we first need to develop a backbone, hence our struggles.
Our struggles were never meant to kill us. Its only intention was to strengthen us. To fortify us for every challenge we have ahead of us.
