The next day was Monday so even though both Maya and Luke were totally drained both physically and emotionally they went on with their day.
They had left Ford's house in the early hours of the
morning and had gone back to Maya's house where they were able to get another hour of sleep as they lay wrapped in the comfort of each others arms. Then when the alarm had blared at 7:00 they had groggily gotten out of bed and into respective showers. A silent agreement was made that night that even though Maya was going to be in a public place and surrounded by people she would not be left alone.
Donna would be armed and with her always while in school and Luke would spend the day prowling outside and keeping watch for any shady characters.
It was a good set up and Luke felt confident that no harm would come to the woman of his dreams. Not as long as he had breath in his body.
The day was long and by the time a barrage of students filtered out from the old red brick building all Luke wanted to do was to go home with Maya, get some food into both their systems, cuddle on the couch and unwind.
When she finally made an appearance with Donna at her side all he could do was stare. To him she'd gotten even more from the last time he saw her earlier that morning.
As she finally got close enough to him he pulled her into his arms, holding her close, and forgetting that they had a very big and a very interested audience but all he did was to hold her for a bit feeling so blessed to finally have her in his arms.
"You alright?" he whispered in her ear.
"I'm fine. You're here," she said softly to him.
He grinned broadly and pressed a kiss to her forehead.
"Even thought this is quite a moment I think it would be best if we were to get her out of sight," Donna quietly interrupted them.
Luke eased her out of his arms knowing that Donna was right.
"You're right. How are you getting home?" he asked her.
Just then Ford pulled up next to them. As soon as he had cleared the car he pulled his wife into his arms, placing a smacking kiss to her lips. The students who had never seen their teacher's partners before unashamedly stood there and watched them, a few of the older boys even going as far as to whistle and hoot when Ford kissed his wife.
Donna sent them a cheeky smile and then sent them off.
"So what are we doing?" Ford questioned.
"Well I don't know about you but we are going to dinner," Luke said motioning to himself and Maya.
"Is this how it's going to be?" Ford began dramatically.
"Just because you're in love you forget about me? What about the bro code? Does that not mean anything to you?!" He hollered.
"Oh shut up!" Donna exclaimed.
"You'd have done the same thing," she said as she swatted at his arm.
"Right you are love", he said to her.
" We're going, " Luke said as he grabbed Maya's arm and lead her to his car.
"Bye call us later and don't do anything we wouldn't," Donna exclaimed.
"That's a lot of this that we could do," Luke called back as he started the car and pulled out of the school parking lot.
Maya sat beside him quietly laughing to herself. Luke grinned over at her. A few moments later they pulled into the parking lot at a nearby diner. He knew Maya preferred the small quiet places instead of some expensive, well-known restaurant.
They had just stepped out of the car and were almost at the entrance to the diner when someone shouted Maya's name.
She spun to look for the source and then the next moment she was pulled into someone's arms with their mouth pressed against hers. Someone who was definitely not Luke because in the next moment his exclamation rang out and the person was ripped away from her.
"Who the hell are you?" he growled into the man's face.
"And why shouldn't I kill you for touching my woman," he snarled into the man's face.
Maya could only stand there knowing that Luke was definitely going to hurt that man whether she liked it or not.
He was going to hurt her fiance.
