The river. It flowed as steadily as it did months ago. You stared at it once again welcoming it as an old friend.
The trickle of water was the same. Soothing and blocking out the sound of your heart breaking. There was one thing different though.
It couldn't make you forget.
Infact, it reminded you of the reason you were there. And so it broke your heart more, but you couldn't leave. The river was always there for you.
You sighed and laid back in the grass. The clouds were puffy and pure white. It seemed like a perfect day. The shock of Friday was over with, but your heartbreak would linger for a while.
"I still don't understand..." You whispered to yourself. "Why couldn't he love you", is what you were thinking. Why was Suzy so much better? It was all a disgusting steriotype. Scorpio and Cancer, the perfect pair. Scorpio and Aquarius forever enemies. Why couldn't things be different? Why did the universe premake your relationships for you?
With that, you sat up, staring blankly.
You heard foot steps behind you and turned around slowly to meet their gaze."Y/n? What are you doing here?" It was Brendan. He was always dressed nicely in his white shirt and black jeans.
"Oh, hi Brendan. I was just looking at the river. What are you doing here." You said curiously. It seemed a bit awkward to speak to him after Friday, but he spoke regularly.
"I come here on my free time to exercise and hang out. You wanna join me?" He smiled gesturing for you to go to him.
"Sure." The both of you walked towards a large tree. Brendan started stretching as you tried to followed what he was doing. You were struggling since you weren't exactly the most athletic.
"Hey..have you been... to the new cafe... yet?" Brendan said in between jumping jacks, taking time to regain his breathe.
"No, I was gonna go with...um..yea." You immediately mentally slapped yourself for making things awkward and reminding yourself of it.
"You can come with me. I was planning to go tomorrow if you want." He stated, grinning a reassuring smile."Yea I'll come."
"Oh and, can I get your number. Since you aren't on the group chat anymore, I have no way to contact you." You thought you saw him blush as he looked away to grab his water bottle, but brushed it off as it probably wasn't true.
You didn't realise that he never had your number. By now you were closer to him than a lot of people.
"Yea here I'll do it now." You grabbed your phone from your pocket as he gave you his and swapped numbers. You almost bursted out laughing at his silly wallpaper. It was a bunch of guys, who you assumed were from Big Hit as they were in a dance studio, making a bunch of silly faces -and ugly ones too-.
"Nice wallpaper, they your friends?" He smiled brightly, proud of his epic wallpaper.
"Thanks, my friend sent it to me and told me to put it as my wallpaper. I won't change is as long as I live. They're my spirit animals ya know." You laughed out loud at that as you two continued to exercise. Not able to look up at him anymore, you decided to address what you knew was on both of your minds.
"So about yesterday...I'm sorry you had to be there, but thanks for comforting me. I would've let you hang out at my house but I just wanted to be alone, ya know?" Suddenly he stopped his jumping jacks and looked at you. His face was serious but still friendly.
"Don't be sorry y/n, I understand what you went through...really I do. I'm happy I was there for you. No one should be alone. It's the one thing I hate. Call me anytime if you need someone ok?" He ended his words with a genuine eye smile.
