Chapter 9

Today. Today is the day I have an 'adventure' with Jason. It makes me smile so much knowing that my best friend is still a child at heart. I love seeing him climb trees and doing other childish things because he looks so happy.  The way he giggles when he climbs to the top of the tallest tree makes my heart melt.

  

9:57 I step outside to see a very hyper Jason stare back at me. I stepped towards with opening my arms. I needed a Jason hug. He grabbed me into the tightest hug. It felt so good to be in Jasons arms. Wonder if he felt the same way? Obviously not, Luke.

"I'm so excited!!!" Jason yelled as he flung his arms into the air and explained the day he had planned for us. I watched the way his eyes widened as he got further into his plans. I watched the way his lips moved. The way he used his hands to explain things. Everything about this boy was perfect.

"COME ON LUKE!!" Jason screamed as he stripped down to boxers, running towards the lake.

I obeyed his commands and I undressed myself. Leaving my boxers on I ran after my best friend. The freezing water put my body into shock. It felt so good.

"ITS SO COLD!" I screamed to Jason as he swam away from me.

He looked back at me and gestured for me to swim towards him. I let my body carry me. The water took control.

As I reached him I was greeted my a giant splash of water hitting me in the face. I ran my hands through my wet hair as I watched my best friend laugh to himself.

"You look good with your hair wet"

My heart stopped. Did he just say that? The boy i've been madly in love with for the past 3 years has just told me that I look good. Ok. Calm.

Another splash of water brought me out of my thoughts and with that a water fight broke out. Our bodies floating around. The cold air felt good when I breathed. And for a minute I forgot about everything. I was Luke again.

"um, Luke?" Jason stopped and looked me in the eyes.

"Yeah?" I answered, still laughing.

"Your arms..." his voice was shakey.

     My heart sank. For a minute everything was good. I forgot that I wasn't living in fantasy land. This was real life. What was I thinking? Luke, you're an idiot.

Jasons body moved closer to mine. He pushed his hair back with his hands and then held my arms. I felt his whole body shake. Tears formed in my eyes.

"Luke, answer me!" his words were serious.

"It's nothing!" I pulled away, swimming back to land.

"Nothing? Are you being serious, Luke? It isn't just nothing!"

Now on land, our bodies dripped with water. This was not how it was meant to be.

I tried to talk, but nothing came out.
