The next morning, Lydia comes to the flat to pick up the girls and I. After countless sideways glances, Lydia's curious brow is becoming more and more impatient. As soon as we drop Lissy and Lottie off at school, Lydia is quick to pounce on me by swivelling around in her car seat.
"Okay, spill! Last night I thought I was going to have to send you an emergency pack of voddy and Valium. Now, you have a spring in your step and a smile so sickly wide, you look as though you're on bloody amphetamines, darling!"
I smugly lift my chin. "I spoke to Jonny last night . . . life is good, Lydia."
"Is he back at the flat then?" she asks.
"No, why do you say that?" I wonder.
With a wicked pout, Lydia replies, "Because my darling, you have that 'Just Fucked' look about you!"
With cheeks turning a tad crimson, I innocently touch my face. "Have I?" I ask, playing down my obvious embarrassment.
Lydia, nods slowly with a knowing smirk. "Mhmm, you look just like the devilish cat who got the very tempting cream, Jessica Neel," she tells me with a naughty gleam in her eye.
I laugh, as the steamy conversation I had with Jonny last night sneakily enters my mind. That infamous grin of mine is definitely back as salacious thoughts run amok, stimulating my unsatisfied body and triggering my desperate need to see Jonny. "We talked, yes," I dreamily answer.
Lydia turns back in her seat, starting up the car. "So it would seem. So everything is okay now?"
I beam, with eyes that serenely shine. "We are more than okay, Lydia."
With both her hands on the steering wheel, Lydia is laughing. "I'm not even going to ask what happened during that conversation last night. That ridiculous smirk says it all, my darling." Her impressed eyebrow arches wickedly high on her forehead.
Is there nothing this woman doesn't know about me? It's all rather unnerving to know that I'm actually unable to hide anything from her. She just knows me so damn well, it's bloody scary.
Instead, I decide to playfully dismiss her comment. "I'm just feeling good, that's all. I hate fighting with Jonny, I really do. I felt sick all of last night. I honestly thought that I'd lost him. So when he called, the relief was immense." I run my hand through my hair, trying not to dwell too long on how awful yesterday and last night was.
Lydia throws me a brief glance before looking back at the road ahead. "What time did Jonny call then?" She asks.
"About three in the morning," I tell her.
"Now that's most certainly a booty call, darling! No wonder you're as happy as a pig in shit," she laughs loudly.
I'm laughing too, but suddenly feel overwhelmed with my feelings for Jonny. I have a sudden need to express them. "God, I love him, Lydia!" I dreamily say, looking out of the passenger window. My heart races at the mere thought of him: his eyes, his mouth, his hands . . . his everything!
"That's obvious, Jessica . . . and he loves you." She sweetly smiles to herself.
I excitedly clasp my hands together. "I honestly think that this year is going to be a great year, Lydia. We have your wedding to look forward to. Lissy and Lottie are happy to spend more time in London. Shawn is speaking to me again, and I'm with a man that I completely and utterly adore," I gush, feeling incredibly happy.
"So why aren't you getting your ass back to Chelsea?" Lydia asks with a cheek-raising grin.
"Because I feel that I need to put some work in, Lydia. Yesterday, I got zilch done because of what happened. So today, I'm going to work!" I answer with determination.
