Entering Jonah's, I'm impressed with the contemporary decor of crisp white tablecloths with dark blue glasses and napkins. Even the chairs are white wood with blue seats, to complement the ongoing nautical theme.
What really makes this place stand out though, is the contrast of the brilliant white walls with the atmospheric blue lighting, making this small restaurant chic and very relaxing.
A tall, yet stocky man quickly approaches us. His greying strawberry blond hair and ruddy cheeks against his pale complexion are very distinctive.
As he gets closer, the bigger his friendly grin grows. "Jonny! How very good it is to see you!" He enthusiastically greets him with a strong handshake and a quick pat to Jonny's shoulder.
"Jonah, it's good to see you, too." They both continue to vigorously shake hands, genuinely pleased to see one another. Jonny lets go of Jonah, bringing me closer to his side. "I'd like you to meet my beautiful lady, Jessica."
Jonah steps forward, another big smile adorning his amiable face. "It's an absolute pleasure to meet you, Jessica." He's much more gentle as he shakes my hand.
"I've heard a lot about you, Jonah," I tell him with a broad grin, glancing across to Jonny.
"All good I hope?" he asks with one raised brow.
I nod, laughing slightly. "It certainly is."
Jonah smiles back at me, side-stepping to reach Beef. "It's great to see you here too, Beef." They both zealously greet each other then Jonah turns back to Jonny. "Now where is that lovely mother of yours?"
Helena playfully nudges us all out of the way. "Being overshadowed by Beef of course," she teases, opening her arms wide to embrace Jonah.
"There she is! How are you, Helena?" Jonah asks, hugging her tightly.
"I'm wonderful, my lovely. Have Stephanie and Harry arrived yet?" She scans the room with her keen eye.
"Not yet," Jonah says with a gentle shake of his head. Putting his arm across Jonny's shoulder, he smiles. "Now Jonny, I've put you all in your usual place, discreetly in the corner." He then puts his free arm across my shoulder. "Whenever he's in town, this place always suddenly gets packed out. So I try to put him where he gets a bit more privacy. Most of the locals are polite though, aren't they Jonny?" He quickly turns his attention back to his favourite person.
"They are, Jonah. I've never had anyone be too intrusive," Jonny agrees, looking across at me and lovingly stroking my back.
"You are always good for business, Jonny, that's for sure!" Jonah laughs loudly, gesturing for us to follow him.
Jonny now looks a little embarrassed, chatting while we walk towards our table. "I can't take all the credit, Jonah. I think you'll find they are here for the fantastic seafood, as well."
Jonah smiles, looking over his shoulder. "I'd like to think so, Jonny."
"How is Rose?" Jonny asks.
"She's fine. No doubt she'll be out for a cuddle soon. It will give her something to brag about down at the post office next week." Jonah chuckles, his ruddy cheeks rising with his big smile.
"I always have a cuddle ready for Rose." Jonny is now chuckling, presumably talking about Jonah's wife.
"If you weren't such a lovely fella, I'd be worried." Jonah laughs, looking at me with a sneaky little wink as we reach our table.
Situated in a quiet corner of the restaurant, Jonny politely pulls out my chair to allow me to sit down. Beef does the same for Helena. As I'm settling in my seat, I'm soon aware that some of the other diners are staring and excitedly whispering amongst themselves. Some are less obvious than others, yet they're all fascinated by the presence of Jonny.
