Chapter Twelve: Back from the Future

Aunt Kathy's house...

Janet's POV:

I unlock the door to the house and I walk in with Aunt Kathy in tow, "Are you sure your okay?" I ask for the millionth time.

Aunt Kathy nods and sits on the couch, "I'm positive."

I nod, sighing, sitting by her, "Who was it that attacked you? Did you see anything?"

Aunt Kathy pauses, "Uhm.. well, it all happened so fast. He was young. Really young, about your age."

"He was a stranger?" I question, raising one eyebrow.

Aunt Kathy shakes her head, "I had never seen him before in my life."

I nod, reassuring her, "He's not going to hurt you again."

Later....

In the lab...

This is going to be my first time seeing Adam, Bree, and Chase on a mission. Exciting. Mr. Davenport walks in, "Okay, your mission supplies are packed, the schematics have been uploaded into Chase's chip, and your transport is on the way." Mr. Davenport snaps his fingers, "Did I forget anything?"

"No, we'll just guess what the mission is and see how it all plays out." Bree raises her eyebrows at Mr. Davenport.

"All right." Mr. Davenport nods, "A particle collider is a three-mile long underground facility where scientists--"

Chase cuts Mr. Davenport off, "Race subatomic particles at each other at light speed for energy experiments." Mr. Davenport and Chase giggle, "So cool!" I smile at how Chase is so fascinated by that.

"I know!" Mr. Davenport giggles.

Mr. Davenport and Chase wiggle their fingers, "Deedle-deedle-dee!"

Adam looks at them weird and Bree looks bored. I try to hold in my laugh. Mr. Davenport continues, "There is a particle collider in Berkeley that is accelerating out of control, and your mission is to shut it down."

Adam laughs, "Oh ho! Awesome! I hope one of us knows how to do that."

"Okay. We have to act quickly. The scientists that operate the facility--" Mr. Davenport walks over to his computer that Leo is on. Mr. Davenport moves Leo, "'scuuuuse me--" Mr. Davenport types on the computer, "have already evacuated the control center, and if we don't shut it down in time, it will create a massive black hole that will implode the entire planet."

Adam, Bree, and Chase nod. "Today?!" Leo exclaims, "No, that's not gonna work. Today is Shelly Evans' birthday, and her mom makes the best cupcakes!"

I nod, agreeing with Leo, "He's not lieing."

Adam, Bree, Chase, and Mr. Davenport look at us weird and Leo defends, "I'm just sayin'. That woman doesn't skimp on the sprinkles."

Mr. Davenport nods, "Don't worry, Leo, you will get your cupcakes. Adam, Bree and Chase" Mr. Davenport walks over to the cyberdesk and we all follow, "have all the training they need to shut the collider down."

"I don't know, Big D. I think these guys are gonna need some... back-up!" Leo sings.

"Yeah, and that's why you're gonna be back-up!" Mr. Davenport copies Leo, "here in the lab with me and Janet."

Adam laughs, "Oh, he said 'backup' and you said 'backup.'" We all look at him while he explains, "Saying things twice makes it funny! Oh! Saying things twice makes it fun--"

"Stop it!" Mr. Davenport yells.

I laugh, but stop when there is a bright light in the lab and I hear a man yell, "No, no, no!!! Aaaah!"
