In the lab...

Janet's POV:

Leo and I watch Adam, Bree, and Chase, who have these devices strapped onto their necks. "Okay," Mr. Davenport starts, "now we'll check your bionic reflexes. First the left arm." Mr. Davenport presses a button and Chase's left arm goes flying into Adam's face, who is in the middle, and Adam's left arm hits Bree in the face. Adam groans and Bree touches her face. I stifle my laugh from the funny sight. "Okay, now the right arm." Mr. Davenport announces, pressing another button.

Bree's right arm smacks Adam in the face and Adam's right arm smacks Chase in the face. Chase holds his nose and Adam groans, "Oh, I hate this game!"

I chuckle, not being able to hold it in. "Okay, Adam." Mr. Davenport answers, "Well, you can sit this one out. I'll just do Bree and Chase."

Adam smiles and Mr. Davenport presses another button, making Chase's left arm and Bree's right arm hit Adam in the face. Adam groans and Chase and Bree laugh at him. "Come on, Big D, it's summer vacation!" Leo starts, "Let's hit the beach. Slap on some shorts and show everyone your pasty little walking sticks!"

I laugh and fist bump Leo. "Not now, Leo." Mr. Davenport answers, "We're doing some routine bionic chip maintenance. Besides, this is fun, right, guys?" He asks Adam, Bree, and Chase as Tasha walks in with a tray of drinks.

"Good times."

"A blast."

"Okay, are we done here? I wanna go be normal" Bree takes off the device strapped to her neck, "for a while!" Bree tosses the device to Mr. Davenport, but it hits the controls Mr. Davenport was using, falling on the ground, sparking.

Tasha drops her tray of drinks she had in her hands, surprised. Bree cringes from the mess. "Can't we go just five minutes without something sparking, exploding, or oozing around here?" Tasha exclaims, "Ever since summer vacation started," She steps over to Mr. Davenport, "it has been like one long science experiment."

"I'm sorry, honey. I... you know..." he rubs her arm, turning around to us, "maybe... maybe Leo's right. Maybe we need to take a break and go to the beach."

"Ahh!" Adam cheers.

"Yeah!" Bree agrees.

"We'll take a whole weekend, as a normal family," Mr. Davenport explains, as Leo, Bree, and I pick up the mess on the ground, "you know?" Tasha sighs in relief and he finishes, "No gadgets, no phones. We'll do it totally tech-free."

"Oh, that is exactly what I need. You would really do that for me?" Tasha asks.

"Of course." Mr. Davenport answers, "You are way more important to me than the amazing innovations born of my genius."

Tasha walks away and Leo, Bree, and I stand from picking the stuff off the ground. I hold my phone to my chest, "I'm keeping my phone."

"Nuh-uh!" Bree tells me, "If your coming with us, the rules apply to you too!"

I sigh in defeat, putting my phone in my back pocket. "Wow, Big D," Leo speaks up, "it's really nice of you to blow off work for my mom."

"Well, you know, Leo, now and then, everybody needs a little piece and..." Mr. Davenport gets cut off by an alarm blaring. Mr. Davenport yells over the alarm, "Quiet!"

"It's the early warning satellite system." Chase informs us.

"It's detecting a giant solar flare. When that thing hits the atmosphere, it'll cause massive power failures and a total blackout of satellite communications." Mr. Davenport informs.
