Prompt: Dan is a solider and Phil is waiting for his husband to get back, he's been gone for a year and a half. They have a daughter, she's four and named Anna. Phil's birthday is coming up.
"Anna, it's time for Nana's! Are you ready?" I asked, waiting for her to come down. Bopping down the stairs with her favorite doll, she smiled up at me. I smiled back. "Daddy, when's does Papa get home?" She asked as I helped with her shoes. Sighing, I looked up. "I don't know, baby, but I bet he misses you." I tickled her, making her giggle.
When we got to the car, I buckled her in. Getting into the driver's seat, I sat for a moment, twirling my ring on my finger. "Daddy, are you ok?" Anna asked, smiling at me through the rear view mirror. "Yes, baby. I'm fine."
When we got to my mum's, she was waiting outside. "NANA!" Anna jumped out and ran, squealing. "Anna Banana!" Mum laughed. When Anna went inside to go color, my mum and I sat down to talk. "How are you, Phil?" She asked softly. I looked up, tears brimming my eyes. "I..I miss him, Mum." My voice wobbled. She smiled in understanding, then patted my hand. "We're going to Skype tonight." I smiled. She smiled back. "Let's go bake, get your mind of off things." We headed inside.

"Anna! Papa's gonna call any minute, are you in your PJs?" I called. She bounced into the room, her Hello Kitty pajamas on, only the shirt was backwards. Chuckling, I pulled her to me. "C'mere, Princess. Let Daddy fix your shirt." She giggled. After I adjusted her pajamas, I set her on my lap to see Dan online.
Danisnotonfire is calling...
I accepted and smiled brightly when his face appeared on the screen. "PAPA!" Anna squealed. "Hi, Princess. How are you and Daddy?" Dan smiled. I nearly burst into tears right then. His smile made me melt, and his voice was something I very much missed in person.
"We're ok, Papa! What 'bout you?" Anna smiled. "I'm ok." Dan smiled. "Daddy was sad earlier." Anna blurted. Dan chuckled. "Was he?" Dan looked at me. "Yeah, buts he's okay now, Papa." Dan smiled again. You couldn't help but smile at Anna, she just had that ability.
"Hey, pumpkin, can you go play with your Princess castle for Daddy? I need to talk to Papa alone." I said, my voice shaking a little. "Sure, Daddy." She kissed my cheek and ran off. Dan chuckled. "I miss that energy fluff so much." He sighed. "We miss you too." I said softly, the tears picking my eyes again. "I promise it won't be too much longer, baby." Dan smiled; he was about to cry too. "I miss you so much that every little thing reminds you aren't here. The empty space next to on the bed, your seat at the kitchen table.." my words came out distorted a little as now tears came slowly down my face.
"It'll be ok. We'll be okay, I promise, Angel Bean." Dan smiled, him crying as well. "I love you, Bear." I smiled, sniffing and wiping my tears. "I love you, too, Lion." He smiled. "Anna! Come here, say bye to Papa." My voice cracked. Her little feet were heard as she hurried into the room. She climbed into my lap. Turning to me first, she grabbed my face. "You okay, Daddy?" She kissed my nose. "Yes, Pumpkin, I'm fine." I smiled. She turned to Dan, who was smiling at cooing to himself.
"Bye, Papa. I love you very much and miss you." She blew a kiss. "I love you too, Princess." Dan's voice was raspy, letting me know he was still crying. I hit end call and went to go tuck Anna in.

The next day, my mum called me. "Hi Phillip!" She chirped. "Hi, Mum." I smiled. "How did last night go?" She asked softly. "Well, I cried again." I chuckled. "That's understandable, love." She chuckled too. "What do you have planned for your birthday?" She asked. I didn't know; I don't really celebrate them without Dan. "I'm not sure, Mum." I sighed. "You'll think of something, I'm sure. Can you swing by later?" Mum asked. I agreed and left, and began making lunch. Anna would wake up from her nap any minute.Later on, I was on the way to my mum's when Anna's shoe broke. "Daddddddyyy!" She whined from the back. "Annnnnaaaaaa!" I whined back in the same tone. "My favorite shoes broke." She sighed, and frowned. I chuckled. "We'll have to stop and get you some more."
Afterwards, I texted Mum letting her know we'd be a little late. Anna spent forever picking more shoes, and then when she finally did she didn't want to let me pay for them-she wanted to wear them.
Pulling into Mum's driveway, I noticed some other cars. Not really thinking, I grabbed Anna in my arms and walked into the house. The lights were off. "Mum?" I walked around, into the kitchen. When I flicked on the lights, my family jumped up and yelled surprise. I smiled, hugging my mom. "Thanks, Mum."
"We have one more surprise. Close those eyes, boy." She laughed, making me laugh too. I felt arms wrap around me, and my heart fell out my chest. Opening my eyes, I turned around. "DAN!" I screamed, attacking him in a hug and crying. "Hi, Bear." He smiled. I began to sob. "You're here, you're really here! I missed you so much." I sobbed. "I missed you too." He hugged me tightly. "Surprise." My mum smiled. "He told me he wanted to do this for your birthday." I looked back at Dan, who was smiling at me. "I love you so so much." I kissed him, earning a 'Ew, Daddy! Papa!' From Anna. Dan chuckled. "Come here, Princess!" Anna ran over to him, and squealed when he lifted her up. "Papa missed you, Annie." He hugged her tightly. "Papa, I missed you too. But that's not my name." She giggled.
I grabbed Dan's hand, intertwining our fingers. At last, our family was together again.
