Prompt: Au where the world is black and white, until you meet your soul mate and fall in love. Unfortunately, sometimes you see color too late, because your soulmate has been seeing color around someone else.

Listen to Burning House by Cam for this chapter. You'll cry guaranteed.
Phil has a dilemma.

He's been seeing color.

Up until now, he's been struggling to narrow down who his soul mate could be. He hangs out with three people.

That's it.

But between those three people, he couldn't figure out who his soulmate could possibly be. Well, he knew for sure it couldn't be his friend Troye, because he has his soul mate, Jacob. And his best friend, Dan, had a boyfriend, Charlie. That left one person: Chris.

But Phil didn't see how it could be Chris. He knew it was probably Dan, as he spent the majority of his time with the lad, scrolling through social media and laughing at various memes. They were inseperable most of the time-of course, when Charlie doesn't whisk him away. Phil quite enjoyed his company, and sometimes when Dan stayed over, they'd make a fort together  and laugh until their stomachs hurt.

Shit, Phil thought, as he pushed his face into a pillow. It's Dan. How would he explain this to him? Dan's perfectly happy with Charlie. Phil groaned, flipping over. He texted Chris and Troye quickly, sending the code words to let them know it was an emergency.

Two hours later, they sat in a circle, Phil nearly hysterical. "He loves Charlie, they're soulmates. Simple. Telling him this would mess up everything." Phil sighed, laying back and closing his eyes tightly. "Look, Phil. Here's what I've come to realize: life has a weird way of working out. Remember when I thought Pj was my soulmate, and then he cheated on me?" Chris explained, laying down next to Phil, propped up on an elbow. "I don't think you'd see colors if he wasn't meant to be with you." Troye raised an eyebrow, making a point.

"Okay, okay." Phil ran his hands over his face. "I'll talk to him tomorrow." Troye smiled. "Atta boy!" He said, took Phil's hand. "Trust me, it'll be fine."

Shaking with anticipation, Phil walked around the school, searching for Dan. Of course, when he was found, it wasn't the result he wanted. Dan and Charlie were all over each other at Dan's locker. "U-Uh, Dan..can I t-talk to you for a moment?" Phil tapped Dan on the shoulder. Charlie, unbeknownst to Dan, glared. "Sure, Phil." Dan smiled. They walked over to a spot on the stairs and sat. "You know how they say..when you meet your soul mate..You see color?" Phil began, his voice trembling. Dan nodding, encouraging Phil to go on.

"Well..I've been seeing color lately.." Phil bit his lip. "You've meet your soulmate! That's great, Phil!" Dan hugged Phil quickly. Phil gave a breathy laugh. "Yeah, see, there's a bit of a problem with that." He picked at his fringe. Dan raised an eyebrow. "My..My soulmate is already..taken." Phil explained. Dan began to get curious. "Oh. Do you know if its there soulmate, though?" He asked, biting his lip. Phil closed his eyes; now or never. "Depends. Is Charlie your soulmate, Dan?"

Dan was confused for a moment, and taken aback. "Wait.." He said softly. "You mean.." Phil looked down at the floor. "P-Phil, I'm sorry..I-I love Charlie." Dan said, his tone even softer. Phil didn't reply; instead his heart slowly broke. "I'm gonna go." Dan jumped up and left Phil by himself.

Phil willed himself not to cry, but how could he not? His soulmate was in love with someone else.

Chris was right. Life did have a way of working out: just not for the best.
