[CC's POV]
Cayden thankfully didn't have any concussion. The hit was strong, but it mostly just dazed him a bit, and the the swelling had gone down a lot thanks to the nurses.
Sad thing is he'll need stitches, and the gash was probably gonna leave a scar.
"Now, its important that you keep the stitches dry for a week or two before you come back to get them removed," the nurse said as he sat still, wincing every time the needle pierced his skin. Johnnie held his hand as I stood close. Ashley was calling our lawyer, Dina.
No way I was letting them get away with all of this. For fuck's sake, they hit my kid!! They insulted a bunch of kids! They called my unborn child a "thing"!!
Soon she was done and gave me some pain meds for him, in case he gets any headaches.
"Alright, even though he didn't have a concussion, keep an eye on him if he falls asleep. Anything happens, just bring him back here," she told me.
"Again, thank you," I said as Ashley walked in.
"Well?" I asked.
"Dina's gonna want to talk with you, Hannah, and John, but she'll understand in Hannah's condition if she can't," Ashley said. "She'll help press charges, we'll even need some pictures of Cayden's face."
"Sent them to be printed. Since this was an assault, especially domestic, and you know who it was, we took pictures before proceeding.Police will want those photos," the nurse said.
"That really helps, thanks," I said as finished writing some stuff done.
"No problem," she nodded, smiling. "Doctor will be by to give him a final check up and give him an all clear."
We nodded as she left.
"That was pretty sketchy," Johnnie said, scooting over to cuddle with Cayden, who held an ice pack on his bruised cheek, away from the stitches.
"I know... But I hated how he talked to Hannah," he said. "Hell, he even said that to Shannon, I couldn't just stand aside and let them get away with it."
I sighed and walked over, hugging him. "I'm proud that you stood up to everyone, but please be careful in the future. He could have seriously hurt you."
He nodded and hugged me back. "I'm sorry, Dad."
"Don't apologize, its okay," I said, holding his face. He looked troubled.
"Are you okay?" I asked.
He sighed and nodded. "Just that... It bought a bit of a flashback..."
I frowned. "Flashback?"
He hesitated to talk before he spok. "When I was four, I met my mom's parents..."
That said it all and I sighed. "We got evicted from our apartment, and almost had no choice but to go back home. Her dad hit me, and she kind of took some punches, too," he frowned. "She ran once we had the chance, ended up living with Johnnie and his family for a year and a half until we finally got our own home."
"Oh god," I sighed, remembering how abusive and awful Josefina's family was. Going back to her family must have been desperation in her part to avoid having Cayden taken away from her or homeless.
He sniffled and wiped at his eyes as Johnnie hugged him, kissing his shoulder.
"Well, you don't ever have to see them again," I said. "And we're gonna handle this with Hannah's parents to make sure they don't hurt you, or her or your little sister."
