Harry
Everything was blurry. His head hurt so much. Harry groped for his face. No glasses. He reached stupidly out in front of him. After a few minutes of hopeless searching, his fingers enclosed around the cool metal of his glasses. He rammed them on his nose.
There was Ginny, asleep in the arm chair next to his bed. His heart warmed at how she had slept in a chair so she would not have to leave him. He prodded her with his big toe. Ginny jerked awake staring blearily around, then her eyes fell upon him.
"Harry!" Ginny cried, "you're awake!"
Something inside Harry snapped. He lashed out madly at the girl who had tried to attack him, Ginny backed off looking petrified. Harry tried to get to his feet, he was determined to get her.
Ginny screamed, "help! HELP!"
The doors of the room burst open, a tall man came running in, he raised his wand and Harry felt ropes bind him, gently digging into his skin.
"Harry!" Ginny exclaimed, "calm down!"
What was happening? Harry looked down at his body. Why was he bound like an animal that had been captured?
"Ginny?" Harry croaked, his throat hurt so much, "why am I bound?"
Ginny's mouth dropped open slightly, "w-well, you attacked me, remember?"
He what?
Ginny bit her now trembling lip. "Ha-" she began to say, but the man cut her off.
"No!" He said sharply, "don't say his name! It's when you say his name he snaps in and out of it."
Harry looked from the two in confusion, he snapped in and out of what? "I'm not crazy," he said defensively to the two.
Ginny's chocolate eyes filled with tears, "no, love, I know you're not. I love you."
"I love you too."
Ginny
Ginny sat on the sofa at Grimmauld Place explaining what had happened to Ron and Hermione, admittedly they were an excellent audience; gasping and talking at the right times, not interrupting anything.
"So, what's going to happen to him?" Hermione's voice was just above a whisper and her brown eyes were wide and concerned.
"I don't know," Ginny sighed, it hurt her to admit it. "He goes crazy when I say his name, I don't see how we can stay together." Tears stung at her eyes and Hermione pulled her into a hug.
"Oh, don't be sad, Ginny!" She cried, "it'll be OK."
Ginny felt hot tears slide down her cheeks, she felt ashamed of herself. "N-no! It wont! I can't be with him if he tries to kill me!"
Hermione squeezed Ginny tighter, "no! No! No! It's going to be OK."
"It's not though, it wont be!" Ginny sobbed hysterically, "ever!"
"Er-" said Ron nervously, "shall I make a cup of tea? - It's what mum does when someone's upset."
Hermione's huff of warm breath tickled the side of Ginny's neck and she was released from the one-armed hug. Hermione tucked a lose strand of hair nehind her ear and looked pitifully at Ginny. "They'll cure him," she said, "they will."
Ginny looked at the older girl, amazed. Hermione had all the good qualities of the four friends: she had Ron's loyalty, Harry's bravery, Ginny's fight and something that was completely her own; the ability to see the good in any situation.
Ron returned with three cups of tea hovering along beside him, they landed on the coffee table and sat steaming infront of the three. Ginny picked a mug and sipped the hot liquid, marvelling at how her body was instantly warmed. The steam billowed from the mug and onto Ginny's cold face. Ginny looked up. Two pairs of eyes (one pair brown, the other blue) were fixed avidly on her, expecting more information.
"S-so," Ginny worked hard to stop her voice from trembling. "Shane said he would run some tests on Harry...see what he can do..."
"Ah," was Hermione's response and they all lapsed into sillence.
Ron heaved a sigh, Ginny felt terrible for worrying her elder brother like this. Harry was like a brother to Ron, she could not bear to see him look so pale and scared. "Harry's sort of - er - cracked up then?"
"Ron!" Hissed Hermione, making an obvious glance in Ginny's direction. "Harry has not cracked up."
Ginny shook her head slowly, "it's OK, Mione, Ron's right. Harry tries to kill whoever says his name, he's gone absolutely mad."
A heavy silence fell over them leaving Ginny to her very terrified thoughts.
***
"Harry!" Ginny's screamed, "please! Please! Leave him alone!" She ran after the faceless men who were dragging a bloody and beaten Harry away. It was like chasing a rainbow; any time you got near it would get further away. "HARRY!"
Ginny was stumbling over rocks and crashing through the undergrowth, her only thought was to reach Harry. Then someone grabbed her arm. She was being dragged in the opposite direction by someone she could not see.
"HELP!" She shrieked, "someone, PLEASE!"
The person dragging her chuckled and said silkily, "the Dark Lord will be very pleased when we manage to resurrect him...using you..."
Then Ginny was lying on an operating table, she could not see the people standing over her because of their cloaked bodies, they held cruel looking knives. The tallest of the men took the tools, he laid them down on a table, he selected the cruellest knife of the lot; it had a curved blade, he held it up to the light where it glinted silver. He made the smallest incision on the place where Ginny knew her heart to be and the man's hood fell back. Long blonde hair. Grey eyes. Lucius Malfoy.
Ginny's scream tore at her lungs, she screamed herself awake. Sweating and shaking, she sat up and turned her bedside lamp on. The room was illuminated, empty and cold. No Harry, no Harry to hold her when she was scared. She made up her mind in an instant. She dressed, brushed her hair and scribbled Hermione and Ron a quick little letter. Then she dissapparated.
A huge door with a majestic brass knocker loomed in front of her. Ginny knocked loudly several times. After a few minutes a sleepy eyed, tousle haired Draco answered the door.
"Ginny?" He yelped, "it's one in the morning! What are you doing here?"
"I-" Ginny faltered, "can I come in?"
Draco stepped aside allowing Ginny to enter, "so what's wrong?" He asked as they made their way to the living room.
Ginny sat down on the cold sofa, wringing her hands together. "I had this...this terrible nightmare about...your dad..." she cringed as she said it.
Draco considered her for a moment, then said, "and you came here simply to tell me this?"
"No," Ginny hesitated, "I just thought seeing he wasn't here would calm me."
The blonde man did not say anything, he inclined his head slightly. Ginny knew he was lonely after his mother had left and his father had been thrown in Azkaban. The, Ginny saw a tear slide down Draco's cheek.
"What happened?" Ginny asked, slightly scared.
"My mother died because of my father and what he did..." Mumbled Draco.
Ginny felt her heart twist in pity for him, "I'm so, so sorry!" She cried, "I didn't know...I..."
Draco nodded sadly, Ginny gave him a quick friendly hug. It felt weird, hugging Draco Malfoy. Draco pulled away.
"Ginny," he said heavily, "there's something you should know...my father has escaped from Azkaban..."
