Harry
A hair raising, glass shattering shriek broke into Harry's happy dream. He opened his eyes and Ginny woke with a yelp beside him, Harry knew immediately what she was thinking. Her wild eyes looked around before she realised what it must have been, a child's wails erupted from the room next door. Ginny sighed and was about to get out of bed when Harry stopped her.
"No, let me," Harry said, he scrambled out of bed, "get some more sleep."
Ginny's face fell, "I can't without you, I need you to keep away the nightmares, I think I'll just go in the shower."
"OK, Gin," Harry agreed, rubbing his heavy eyes, he shoved his glasses on his nose and hurried through to James's room. He scooped James up in his arms and hurried down the stairs where the scream had originated. "Aunt Petunia?" Harry called out, knowing exactly who had screamed. "Where are you? What are you screaming about?" The shrieks continued and Harry followed the sound to the cellar kitchen where he found his Aunt Petunia standing on the table as Kreacher - who looked very distressed - was trying to persuade her to get down.
Harry sighed, "it's OK, Kreacher, I'll handle this." Kreacher nodded and trotted away and Harry turned, irritably, to his Aunt. "What the hell are you doing?" He asked furiously as she got down off the table.
Aunt Petunia raised a trembling hand and pointed at Kreacher, "w-what is that?"
"That's Kreacher, he's our house elf. You know, you woke up James and you terrified Ginny - every time she hears a scream it reminds her of trying to save Hermione from being tortured. She was probably dreaming about something like that judging by her expression when you woke her! You've met Kreacher before and he certainly wasn't trying to harm you!" Harry finished his angry rant, fists clenched, breathing heavily.
Aunt Petunia looked at her pale, bony hands, "sorry, a wizard's house is hard to get used to." She mumbled.
"It's OK," Harry said grudgingly.
They turned around as Ginny entered the kitchen, purple shadows under her eyes. She yawned, kissed Harry on the cheek on completely ignored Aunt Petunia. Harry suspected she had never gotten over the way the Dursleys had treated him as a child. They sat down at the table together and ate breakfast.
"G'morning," they all turned to see Dudley, Harry watched Ginny's expression darken. Dudley walked over to the table and sat down, he looked from Harry to Ginny with a bemused expression.
"Yes?" Ginny said coldly.
"Just...how did he-" Dudley gestured to Harry, "get someone like you?"
Ginny sent him a look of purest loathing, "he got me easier than you would, in fact, you never would, I would never be able to tolerate someone like you. Ever. I don't understand how your wife could love you, from what I hear your a great bullying git-"
"Ginny," Harry mumbled in Ginny's ear - though he secretly agreed with what she was saying - but Ginny was on too much of a roll to stop.
"You all are, you all bullied Harry for years, you made his life miserable, you treated him like a piece of dirt when he's more special than all of you put together. You make me sick, all of you. You disgust me." And with a contemptuous glare, Ginny sat down. Harry loved Ginny for her unfaltering bravery, she did not simply stalk out leaving a whole argument behind her, she sat and waited for them to argue back. Both Petunia and Dudley stood looking completely thunderstruck and Ginny smirked then turned her attention to James, who giggled happily as she tickled him.
This is going to be interesting, Harry thought to himself, allowing a small smile to tug at his lips.
Ginny
Ginny sipped her steaming mug as she dipped her quill in a pot of ink. Her hand paused as she thought up what to say next, she had no idea what to write in a letter of application. She had decided to work for the ministry in the relocation for house elves department - with Hermione.
"Hey, love."
Ginny looked up to see Harry standing over her, he kissed her lips softly and Ginny felt the familiar swooping sensation in her stomach. "Hi there," she replied lovingly.
"What are you doing?" Harry asked, leaning over her shoulder to catch a glimpse of the letter. Ginny smiled and titled it towards Harry so he could read it. "Applying for a job?" Harry enquired, "house elf regulation? Doesn't seem like your kind of thing."
"Yeah, well...after what happened to Dobby...I want to make sure nothing like that happens to a house elf again."
Harry's face twitched and Ginny knew he was remembering it. She reached out and gripped his arm, taking his face in her hand, making him look directly into her eyes. "Don't think about it, it's all OK, he's safe now. I'm sorry for bringing it up."
"It's not your fault," Harry whispered back, he kissed her softly.
"It's not yours either," Ginny replied when they broke apart. Harry smiled slightly and snatched her letter up, claiming he was proof-reading it. Occasionally, he would nod or make an approving noise, after a few minutes, he put the letter back in front of her and said, "send them this and you'll get in, but you should probably let them know you'll be needing to go on maternity leave soon."
Ginny knew she was missing something, "maternity leave, of course, knew there was something missing. Thanks, love."
"No problem," Harry replied with the sweetest of smiles and leant in to kiss her again. Ginny had been in the midst of sealing the envelope when he did this, she dropped the envelope and kissed him back, she ran her fingers through his raven hair and he cupped her face in his hands. They were cruelly interrupted by Ron.
"Whoa! Get a room!" He averted his eyes, pulling a disgusted expression.
"Get lost, Ronald," Ginny said rudely.
Ron stuck his tongue out and walked over to them. "So what are you doing, besides burning my eyes out with your public displays of affection?"
Ginny held up the half sealed envelope, "writing to the Ministry about a job."
"Hhmn, fun," Ron muttered, "well, good luck with that." And he left.
A yell of shock sounded from the cellar kitchen and Harry sighed, rubbing his face tiredly. "Uncle Vernon's discovered Kreacher, by the sound of things," and he ran from the room.
Ginny let out a noise like an angry cat, how was she to deal with this unbearable guest?
