"Kyra! Where do you want these costumes hung up?" Dylan's husky voice asked from across the room. My cheeks flushed a deep crimson as embarrassment flooded into my veins. The costumes were one of my favorite parts of competing, but when people brought attention to them when I wasn't competing, I became self conscious about them. After all, the costumes were also a part of the score in competitions.
"Uhhh, just hang them up in the back of the closet away from everything else I replied before going back to attempting my math homework. Math was my worst subject, and since I had spare time on my hands, what better way to get ahead of the game other than by practicing my math and doing the next weeks homework? Although I wasn't good at the subject, I had seen Blake complete this lesson years ago. If only it made sense to my seven year old mind at the time.
*****Flashback*****
"Bubba Blake!" I shrieked as I ran down the halls. the sugar from the cake my mom had just given m had hyped me up, to her dismay and now all I wanted to do was spend some quality time with my brother.
"What's up?" he asked as he looked up, well more like down at me, but up from his homework he was currently trying to working on. "Play with me?" I asked, giving him my best puppy dog face. he sighed and a giant grin settled on his face and removing the look of stress and worry from his face.
"Okay, K-Girl. Just let me finish my homework and then I'll play with you." He said happily.
I groaned and gave him a glare. "Bubba Blake! I've told you not to call me K-Girl." I whined.
He chuckled loudly, "Okay princess. I'm sorry." I grinned, accepting his apology for the slip up. I crawled onto the couch and snuggled into his side. He wrapped his arm around me and planted a gentle kiss to my forehead. He then continued to work out the problems on his paper that seemed to never end. I watched him solve the letters and numbers while his pen scratched across the paper, leaving blue inkings in his sloppy chicken scratch handwriting.
My mind tried to follow along with his fast solving skills, but my small seven year old mind couldn't comprehend the fast work of my older brother.
***** End of Flashback*****
I started at the examples in my math notes and slowly started to work on the problems. Thankfully our teacher was nice and only gave us five problems to begin with. The concepts slowly started to make sense and the pounding stress headache I had started to disappear.
"Kyra?" Jackson said softly as he sat down beside me. "Are you okay? Why are you crying?" he pondered. I hadn't even realize I had been crying until he asked. I wiped the warm, salty substance off my face and sniffled once.
"It's nothing, I'm fine." I said before closing my binder and grabbing my laptop. might as well update on wattpad while I can I thought to myself.
