Chapter 2
Sophie
"Ha, gotcha!" I cried as I placed my hands over Alice's eyes.
She shrieked and I laughed. I removed my hands and she spun around, her hands on her hips. I snorted at how fiery her blue eyes looked.
"Don't scare me like that, Soph!" Alice tried to look mad but it just looked cute.
"I didn't scare you that bad, Alice." I protested. "Anyways, we all know you're a scaredy cat." Alice crossed her arms and pouted. I chuckled and we sat down on the grass beside each other.
"How was school today? I didn't see you at all except for lunch." Alice commented as she lay back on the grass and stared up at the sky.
"Pretty good. Art was fabulous, Mrs. Burnsby loved my drawing of the country side, which I was so pleased about. And then in dance, Mrs. Autumn gave me a solo!" I chattered on.
Alice and I go to the Collage of The Fine Arts. She majors in dance, and I major mostly in art and some dance.
"That's awesome, Sophie!" Alice turned her head to the side and I did the same, so we were facing each other.
"What?" Alice furrowed her eyebrows worriedly.
"Oh, nothing," I murmured as I studied her face. "How was Mitch today?"
Her face, normally tanned like mine, turned a bright red, and she looked shocked.
"Oh, um, he was, um, fine. Yeah, totally fine." Alice stuttered nervously.
I watched as she quickly looked back up at the sky. I shrugged and watched the clouds move across the sky.
"Don't know if you've heard, Ice," My nickname for Alice. "But Connor Talia is having a party tonight..." I trailed off uncertainly. "And he kinda, um, couldn't find you so he gave me this for you." I bit my lip and handed a piece of paper to Alice.
She unfolded it and her eyes scanned the paper slowly. She looked at me, obviously confused, and read the paper again.
"What is this?"
"An invitation to Connor's party tonight." I answered quietly.
"I know that, what I mean is what is Connor playing at? Giving you an invitation to his party to give to me? And only inviting me? What a little prick!" Alice glowered, angrily.
"It's no big deal, honest. It's fine, Ice. I don't really care much, anyway." I lied, with a fake smile on my face.
The truth was, I was used to it. Alice would always get invited to these parties, because she was gorgeous. She had long blonde hair, that was slightly wavy, her big, baby blue eyes were beautiful, and the perfect body; curvy, but just right.
Where I, on the other hand, had long, straight brown hair. Boring and dull. I had bangs that swooped to the right, and my eyes were a mixture of blue and green. My body, ugh don't even get me started, a bit on the heavier side, you could call me curvy, and not to mention that even though I liked to dance, my coordination stopped me most of the time.
And, thus, Alice gets invited to the parties and I am sat at home, trying to not care. But I do.
She always insists on not going, for me, but I tell her she should go. And she finally does.
"I'm not going," Alice stated.
"Alice," I warned, knowing full well where this was going. "You want to, I know it. Just go, already, and spare us both the agony." I sat up and Alice did too.
"Fine then, I will go, but only if you come with me, Soph." Alice crossed her arms and stared at me intently.
I sighed. "Alice, I wasn't invited! I've never been to a big party like this. I don't care if you go, honest."
"Yeah, you do. Please, please come with me, Sophie! It'll be more fun! I won't ignore you, I promise." Alice pleaded.
I groaned. "I'm gonna regret this," I muttered. "Fine, I'll go with you."
Alice squealed. "Yay, oh thank you, Sophie, you won't regret it, I swear! This is gonna be so fun!"
Alice grabbed my hand and dragged me inside.
Oh brother. What've I gotten myself into?
