Chapter 15
Alice
Once me and Mitch stopped kissing, it was late so Mitch decided to go home, so I decided to walk him to his car. He opened the front door and stepped out, I stepped out as well. He turned to face me, I stared into his deep blue eyes that seemed to never end. Standing there with him seemed so perfect, he wrapped his arms around my waist and I rested my head on his chest. But a noise interrupted my perfect moment...
"Your gonna see each other tomorrow, that's not that long, just kiss her and leave." Sophie groaned. Mitch let go of me, pecked my lips waved a goodbye to Sophie and ran to his car. I turned around and Sophie looked annoyed, but there was something in her tone, in her eyes, it, it was sadness!
"Are you okay, Soph?"
"Yeah, I'm fine. I'm going to bed." She turned and sprinted to her room. "Night," she yelled and slammed her bedroom door.
What's going on? I thought. Sophie usually loves hanging with me and Mitch, me and Mitch. Oh no. I ran to my phone and quickly texted Mitch.
Me: Something's up, with Soph.
Mitch replied a few minutes later.
Mitch: What's wrong?
Me: We've taken our relationship to another level and Soph isn't used to us, you know. Making out in the living room.
Mitch: Ohh, let's talk about this in the morning.
Me: K. Night, Mitch.
I sighed, stood up and walked to my bedroom.
"Night, Soph," I whispered as I walked passed her door. Remembering when we were little, we used to say not to keep secrets, now I feel like she's hiding everything from me. I stopped and turned around walking back to Sophie's room. I knocked and it instantly opened revealing Sophie's sad face, she threw her arms around me and I wrapped my arms around her.
"Shh, it's OK, shh. what's wrong, Soph? What ever it is it's gonna get better." I pulled back a little bit and caressed her cheek. We walked into her room and sat on her bed.
"I'm confused, about Adam." She looked at her hands.
"He likes you, Soph. I know he does." I wrapped my arm around her shoulder pulling her closer to me.
"I know that, I just don't know if I like him. I'm just confused, and lonely," she whispered the last two words.
"Lonely? But you have me and Mitch." I wrapped my other arm around her and pulled her into a hug.
"You and Mitch are dating, I feel like, like a third wheel." Her voice was full of sadness and I could feel that she wasn't happy.
"You are NOT a third wheel, we love you, Soph. Me and Mitch would never leave you, and neither would Adam. He's a sweet guy," she tightened the hug and whispered,
"He's a perfect guy." We sat like that for a while in silence, until Sophie spoke up.
"It's late, we should go to bed." She released me and we stood up. We walked over to the door and I began walking down the hall, I stopped and turned around before Sophie closed her door,
"Hey, Sophie?"
"Hm?"
"I love you," I turned and began to walk down the hall again, I heard Sophie whisper,
"I love you too," a smile creeps to my face has I heard her door close softly. I returned to my room and got ready for bed, I put my blue tank top and a pair of old sweats on and then washed my face, brushed my teeth and climbed into bed.

I woke up to the sound of my phone, someone was texting me. I reluctantly reached for my phone and unlocked it, clicking on my messages.
Mitch: Morning, what was wrong w/ Soph?
Me: Oh, nothing. Well something but it's a girl thing.
Mitch: Ok. Cya later babe
Me: Kk, cya
I jumped out of bed and ran down the hall to see if I could get the first shower, but Sophie was already in there so I went to the kitchen to get some food. I got myself a bowl of Shreddies and sat down at the island. It was nice and quite until I heard the doorbell ring, I looked down at my pajamas and then realizing my hair. I whipped my hair up into a messy bun and ran to the door. I slowly opened the door and standing outside was, the mailman? He held a large parcel and a clipboard, I signed the paper on the clipboard and took the parcel out of his arms, I nodded a thank you and kicked the door to make it close.
"SOPHIE!" I screamed and she came running out of the bathroom in her bathrobe, her hair wrapped up in a towel, with the toilet plunger held up to defend herself from something. She lowered the plunger and sighed.
"What?" She walked over and sat down, placing the plunger under the island. We both exploded into fits of laughter. Be both eventually stopped and read the name on the parcel,
"Alice Smythe, so it's for me and it's from, Cindy Smythe!" I said excitedly and Sophie's eyes lit up.
"Your sister! Well, what are you waiting for? Open it!" I pulled out a pair of scissors and cut the tape on the top, I pulled the side up and reached in to the box. I pulled out a little chest that used to be mine when I was really little, two letters and my baby blanket. I opened up the smallest letter and began reading it out loud,
"Dear Alice and Sophie,
I came to stay at mom's for a little while, and when I came we cleaned out the attic. I found a few things you might want to keep so I sent them. Do you remember those games we used to play where we pretended the attic was our bedroom, I do! I miss you Alice, and you too Sophie! Please come visit soon.
Love,
Cindy xxxxxx,"
I opened the other letter, which was a bit bigger than the other one. Inside were a bunch of pictures of me and Cindy, some of me and Sophie, some of my whole family. I opened up my old wooden chest and it began to play the sugar plum fairy song, it was a jewelry chest but I used to wind it up and leave it open while I would dance around the room to the music. Sophie was no longer across from me, she was now standing next to me rubbing my back.
"I understand now," I said realizing Sophie's pain.
"What?"
"I understand why you're mad, having people so close to you become so far away. Like Cindy or mom." A single tear dripped off my chin.
