Chapter Twenty

Sophie

A few weeks went by and Adam and I were still going strong. We gradually got more serious as the time went on. I was the happiest I'd ever been in my entire life. Alice and Mitch were still together, and very happy too. I didn't mind as much that they were dating; I was happy for them, they were in love, and we were still friends. It was still the three of us, plus Adam, plus two relationships. And I was perfectly okay with that.

At the one month mark of Adam and I dating, we sat in a small ice cream parlor, that could seat about fifteen people. Alice and Mitch sat on one side of the booth, his arm wrapped around her shoulders, her head in the crook of his neck. They were both smiling. Sitting in front of Alice was a chocolate sundae; vanilla for Mitch, strawberry for Adam, and butterscotch for me. Adam stretched and causally draped his arm across my shoulders, pulling me closer. He kissed my cheek and stole a spoonful of my sundae.

"So, how's it going for you guys? You seem really happy." Alice smiled and dug into her sundae, coming up with a chunk on her spoon.

"It's going really fabulous." Adam interjected, rubbing my thigh with his warm hand. I shivered under his touch and blushed at how intimate he was being in public.

"Yeah, I-I'm really happy," I blurted quickly, avoiding their gazes as Adam's hand didn't move. I bit my lip. "For a first boyfriend, he's pretty great."

Alice laughed and gave Mitch a passionate kiss on the mouth, not pulling away until a few awkward moments had passed. She patted his cheek and turned back to us, taking Mitch's hand and setting their joined hands on the table.

"I'm really happy for you, Soph. You're practically glowing." Alice winked at me and finished off her ice cream.

I grinned and blushed yet again when Adam planted a kiss on my cheek and removed his hand from my thigh, leaving me feeling cold.

"So, on a topic that's not so lovey-dovey and mushy-gushy..." Mitch began, trailing off with mischief in his eyes. "Are you guys planning on going to the party that girl Clarissa from school is throwing tomorrow? No invite needed; she said anyone who's free can come. She's really nice."

Alice raised an eyebrow and shrugged. "I'm game. What about you, Soph? Up for a little party?"

I chuckled and polished off my sundae. "Totally. It'll be loads of fun."

"Then it's settled, hey?" Adam dug out the last of his ice cream and popped it in his mouth. He grinned. "The four of us can go together."

The next evening after a quick dinner of macaroni and cheese and sandwiches, Alice and I stood in front of the mirror applying our make-up. We were glammed up from head to toe, Alice decked out in a sparkly sleeveless navy blue dress that went to just above her knees, and gold jewelry; a gorgeous necklace, a stunning bracelet, and a clip in her hair. Her hair cascaded down her shoulders, it was straightened to perfection.

I was clad in a soft pink dress that went to my knees, but seemed shorter because of it not being skintight and it flowing out. There was a green belt that had a green rose on the side, and the sleeves went to my elbows. The top of the dress was cut slightly low, just for a bit of hotness, and my jewelry was silver; silver necklace, silver bracelet, silver flower in my hair, which was curled and flowing down my back. We looked incredible, to be honest.

Alice put on brown eyeliner, dark glittery purple mascara, gold eye-shadow, and pale pink lip gloss. I applied silver eye-shadow, black eyeliner, glittery black mascara, and dramatic red lipstick. We looked at each other and squealed.
