Chapter 10
Sophie
Staring at my best friends back with dread as she followed Mitch towards his black car, I forced a smile at Adam. Alice waved at me and winked. I glared at her and they drove away. I turned to Adam and smiled. He shoved his hands in his pockets and rocked back and forth on his heels.
"So..." He dragged the single and easy word to say out and I mentally groaned. He was the type to use words improperly. I don't see how I could deal with this. "You sure you're cool with helping me?"
I bit my tongue and held back the correction that was just dying to jump from my lips. Honestly, socializing was really not my favorite thing to do. I had Alice, Mitch and my other friend Kelly and that was what I needed for friends, as far as I could tell. I nodded stiffly and forced a reply.
"Yeah, sure. What's he look like?"
"Oh, he's a really nice tabby with brown and orange markings. His name is Stripes." Adam flicked his curly brown hair out of his eyes with a toss of his head and shot me a toothy grin. His green eyes sparkled playfully and he gestured down the driveway. "Shall we start before it gets dark?"
I tried to roll my eyes without being noticed but instead I let my eyes wonder momentarily over his body. He wore a light blue T-shirt that clung to his upper torso, showing off his muscles that I hadn't noticed until now. My eyes danced down his legs, where he had a pair of dark wash skinny jeans on that defined his strong legs. A pair of lime green Converse to top the whole outfit off, and his messy, curly light brown that feel into his emerald green eyes and a cheeky smile.
My God, I am becoming such a fricking pervert.
I was snapped out of my thoughts when I noticed that there was a lacking of a certain person standing beside me. I looked around and spotted Adam a few steps away from me, taking long strides in the direction I assumed was the way to his house. I jogged quickly over to him and matched my steps with his, a comfortable silence falling between us. I sneaked a look up at him and watched the determined look on his face.
We stopped in front of the house to the left of Alice's and my house and I looked up at him expectantly. He sighed and ruffled a hand through his curls.
"Okay, so Sophie, let's start over here, yeah?" Adam gestured to a area.
I nodded with a real smile creeping onto my face. Adam seemed nervous and awkward, not like one of those stuck up jocks and bad boys. He looked genially like a nice guy.

When we finished searching for Stripes, we had succesfully found the beautiful tabby cat, and Adam was clutching him happily in his muscular arms.
"Well, thanks so much for helping me find Stripes, Sophie." Adam offered me a sincere smile and I gave him one back. "It was really nice meeting you."
"It was no problem. And you too." I took my hair elastic off my wrist and used it to pull my hair up in a ponytail.
"Maybe sometime we can hang out?"
I gulped nerviously, knowing this was probably going to come at some point.
"Y-yeah, sounds good, Adam." I smiled weakly.
"Cool. See you around, Sophie." He waved and ran off towards his house, Stripes tucked safely into his arms.
I wondered towards our house and walked in, slowly closing it behind me and taking deep breaths. I quickly ran to my creative room and burst through the door. I ran over to the picture of me and my perfect boyfriend, tore it down from the wall and grasped it tightly until my knuckles turned white. I fell onto the window seat heavily and gasped.
Adam looked exactly like the boy I created.
Exactly like the boy I drew time after time again.
Exactly like the boy that I wished to come find me one day.
"I don't believe this."
