"Oh, you're eating. What a surprise." Justin says.
"Good morning to you too." He laughs and kisses my cheek.
"I'm very proud of you."
"Are you my dad?"
"In some way, yes."
"Justin!"
"What?"
"Don't act stupid. I'm not even hungry now. It's all your fault.
"And I care why?"
"Shut up. You get on my nerves. Can I please kill you?"
"Umm, no. But you can kiss me."
"Oh I can?" He nods.
"Well I'm not going to."
"Why?"
"Because I'm going upstairs."
"I can go upstairs too."
"You're still not getting a kiss.

I follow Ariana upstairs and into our bedroom.
"Are you ever gonna leave me alone?" She asks.
"Not until you give me a kiss."
"I guess you're never gonna leave me alone." She grabs her phone from the nightstand and I stare at her.
She turns her phone off and looks up then giggles.
"What?"
"Nothing. You're just really pretty."
"You always say that!" Her face turns the color of a tomato and I laugh.
"Only because it's true. If you were ugly, I would always say you're ugly."
"No you wouldn't."
"You're right. I wouldn't." Her phone rings and she picks it up from the bed.
I lay down and face the ceiling while I wait for her to finish.
"Hey mom. What's up?"
"Are you crying? Is everything okay?"
"Mom, just tell me."
"What do you mean?"
"Mom, you're joking. That's not true."
"No, no, no." I sit up and she drops her phone on the bed, burying her face in her hands.
"Ariana, what's wrong?"
"Baby girl, what happened?"
"Justin, can you hear me?" I look down at the phone and see she never hung it up.
"Joan, what happened?"
"Ariana's grandmother has a heart attack and few hours ago. She passed away."
"Oh my God, I'm so sorry."
"It's okay, Justin. Just please don't let Ariana out of your sight. She will slip away and fly down here if you're not there to stop her."
"I won't."
"Thank you, Justin. Come down here as soon as possible."
"We'll be there."
"OK. I have to go. Keep my daughter safe." She hangs up the phone and I wrap my arms around Ariana.
"I'm sorry, baby girl."
