"Feel any better?"

"Yeah."

"Your cheeks are getting smaller. I want you to stay looking like a chipmunk."

"You do realize there's cotton in my mouth, right?"

"There is?"

"Yes."

"That would explain why slobber comes out of your mouth every time you talk."

She gets out of bed and walks into the bathroom, coming out later with her cheeks 10 times smaller than before.

"You took it out?"

"More like spit it out. It's annoying as fuck."

"Someone's back to her old self. Does your mouth still hurt?"

"It's numb. And yes it still hurts. Bad."

"You should stop talking. It'll help." She narrows her eyes at me.

"Are you just trying to get me to shut up."

"Well, yes. Your mouth won't hurt as bad." She sits in my lap, laying her head on my shoulder.

A few minutes later, her breathing steadies. She's asleep. I kiss her chubby cheek and lay down.

"Goodnight, princess."

9 am

I wake up coughing and Ariana rolls off of me to the other side of the bed. J don't know how she managed to stay on top of me for 6 hours but she did.

"What just happened?" Ariana groans, her voice raspy.

"I don't know. I just woke up coughing. But you need to come back."

"Why?"

"You made me warm. Come here."

I pull her back on top of me and she lays her head on shoulder.

"That's better."

"Justin, my mouth hurts." She whines.

"It's going to. For some days."

"No, like really bad. It's worse than yesterday." She sits up, placing her hand on her cheek.

"I figured it would be. It hurts worse the next day. Come on." She stands up and we walk downstairs.

"Pain medicine from the dentist. Pain medicine from home. Take both." I give them to her and some water.

She buries her face in her hands and I wrap my arms around her.

"Don't cry, princess. It's okay." She lays her head on my shoulder as I rub her back.

"Justin, it hurts." She says.

"I know, baby girl. I know." I carry her upstairs and lay her in our bed.

"Angel, please stop crying. I hate to see you cry."

"It hurts so bad, Justin. I just want it so stop."

I can't stand to see her in so much pain, knowing I can't do anything about it. I can't help her, or ease her pain. It just breaks my heart, and it makes me want to cry. But I can't. I have to stay strong for her.

Then I hear Jaclyn crying I'm the other room.

"Go get her. I want to see her." Ariana says.

I nod and go into Jaclyn's room. She's trying to sit up but she can't do it by herself, which is probably why she's crying. I take her out of her crib and walk into the bedroom. Ariana is still crying but now she's holding the bear.
