It was September first and school started tomorrow. It was better than starting in August. Back to school commercials were slowing down and I was ready, just ready. Somewhat excited, but you know, it's school. I like school, but it isn't the most exciting thing in the world.
I went down to get the mail and something caught my eye. It didn't have a return address, it just said Bowlight on it. Bowlight is Aurora's last name. We don't use it very often, we barely mention it. But that's all the envelope said on it. It was mysterious, even a little creepy...... I'm gonna open it.
I brought it inside and showed it to everyone. We just stared at it for a while. Until Aurora spoke.
"So, do you want me to burn it? Or do you actually want to open the thing? I have no idea what's going to happen either way."
"Well what if the envelope has money in it?" Kelsey asked
"You've been watching too much 'Deal or no deal'." Ally mentioned. Kelsey shrugged and it was back to the envelope.
"You know I'm going to open it. I don't think it's going to hurt us right?" I was guessing. Actually I was hope guessing, hoping for the greater outcome. It happens a lot on game shows.
I ripped the envelope open, well not ripped fast, slowly. I was careful and cautious. It was a little creepy opening it. The paper was light pink and in tri-folds. I unwrapped the pages revealing the letter.
"Dear whichever one is reading this,
Hello, long time to not stay in touch right? This is Brooke writing from Florida. Don't worry I'm not going to come back. To be honest the world is too hard to control. Anyway I just wanted to let you know how I'm doing. I'm now an actress. Since I can change forms into other people, the director says I look exactly like the girl he imagined. So now I'm a 'small town' girl who goes on a mission to find her dad. It's sort of a sad movie, but it's a lot easy than fighting you..... what is it 6 now?
Anyway how are you doing? I guess you have to go back to school *smirks. Well good luck with that, school, not my favorite thing. By the way, you may have beaten me, but there's a whole other world out there. There are so many enemies out there that are ready to fight. I'm not the only villain, some people are they just don't know it. Be careful on who you trust.
~Brooke S. Aka Nicole from the movie. Take my advice.
That was all Brooke had to say. The letter was a reliever to us, we don't have to worry about where she is. Although she did say be careful on who you trust. I didn't know if I could trust her, but I'm hoping she's in the past. Hoping is the key word here.
"Do you guys really think she's in Florida? Or that she became an actress?" Kelsey asked
"Well, I think she's getting what she wanted. She's becoming known to people. And I bet in the credits the director is going to mention her talent. She'll be known and then we don't have to go through another Brooke blizzard." I smiled when I said this. I was thinking about Brooke and what she's doing and if she likes what she's doing.
We all left the room with the letter on the table. Then I snuck back into the kitchen and took it off the table. Thirty minutes later the letter was framed and I thought of hanging it on the wall, I didn't. I took the letter back out of the frame and put it into my binder for school tomorrow.
Tomorrow came, and yes today is tomorrow. I felt like collapsing when my alarm went off at 6:30 a.m. It's one of those times when you have to start adjusting to it. But I really hate getting up early. Eventually I did and had pancakes for breakfast. We had to extend the table to help make everyone fit. We didn't talk much, it was just stuffing our face until we had to get dressed.
I wore my new turquoise shirt with my jeans. My binder was green and had a Nemo sticker on it. Also inside the binder, first folder, was the semi-crumpled letter from Brooke. I was thinking about giving it to Aurora because she and Brooke were bff's until we came and this would be her first year without her, but again I didn't.
The bus came and it was time to go to school. I sat with Aurora in one seat. Kelsey and Lauren sat behind us, and Laszlo sat alone to the seat next to us. Ally is going on a different bus because she's too young to go to our school. She goes to the elementary school, she gets to wake up later. Lucky!
We got to school and every one was talking with their old friends from last year. I was looking around for a few of my other friends too. Laszlo just walked looking around at other people.
"Laszlo, don't worry. Just remember, be careful who you trust." I smiled and he looked and looked away. And I felt like I was looking at the letter when I said that. I had a feeling I'd be looking at that letter a lot today. Also does Aurora's parents know it's missing? Whatever.
I walked into the school for a whole new school year. New teachers, new grade, new year. And I was ready to start over from the "little" thing that happened over the Summer. I had Brooke letter with me, and I felt more confident having it with me. I don't know why, but it was nice keeping it with me. Like I needed to keep in touch with Brooke. Maybe for reasons I don't understand. I just know I'm not going to get rid of it........
