Belle's POV
"Okay, Harry, you stand with the bishops. Hermione, Belle, you go stand over on the edge of the board." Ron pointed to where he wanted us.
Hermione and I whined in protest. "Ronald, you will not force us to not play." Hermione stomped her foot stubbornly.
Ron had a determined look in his eye that made me change my mind. "Mione," I placed my hand on her arm, "Maybe we should listen to Ron this time." He gave me a look that was full of thanks and I glared at him. "You had better be right about this one, Weasley, otherwise I will never take your side on these things ever again." His eyes widen and he nods.
"Just trust me, Belle."
My eyes were still narrowed but I nodded. "Okay, go ahead."
Ron nodded and yelled out his first move.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ron and Harry were the last ones standing on their side. Ron had a plan, but I wasn't sure I wanted to hear it.
"Harry, got it?" Ron yelled at him. I shook my head quickly. I missed what he said. What was he planning to do and why was Hermione looking so sick?
Ron yelled something and his horse moved forward. The Queen from the other side started inching toward Ron and I heard myself screaming. I tried to run to my friend who looked paler than usual, but Hermione held me back as my knees buckled. "Ron!"
The knight pushed his stone sword through the horse Ron was on and he fell to the ground in an unconscious heap. Harry finished the game and we all ran over to Ron who was passed out in a pile of rubble.
Hermione fell next to him. "Ron? Wake up! Why on earth would you do that?" I noticed she was crying too. Harry kneeled next to Ron and looked at Hermione.
"Hermione, take him back. I have to go on."
Hermione glared at him. "You will not be going alone."
"I don't see any other way."
Hermione was not having it. "We are in this together."
"Well we can't leave Ron here by himself."
"Well-"
I cut Hermione off. "I'll go with him."
Two heads whipped around to look at me, eyes wide with shock.
Hermione gulped. "Belle?"
Harry stood up. "I won't let you, Belle."
I glared at him gently. "Last time I checked, you weren't in charge of me." I started walking away. "I'll be over here, trying to find the stone." I heard a groan behind me and soft footsteps started following me. I smiled triumphantly as Harry followed me.
"Good luck you two." I heard Hermione whisper. Her hoarse voice made my steps falter for a second.
Harry had caught up to me and he took my hand as we turned a corner and Hermione's tear streaked face and Ron's limp body disappeared. We stopped when we reached a wooden door that towered over us.
Harry and I shared a look and he must have noticed the worry and fear in my eyes because he squeezed my hand gently and smiled. "Ready?"
The only thing I wanted to do right now was run back to Hermione and stay with her. I nodded before Harry looked toward the door and pushed them open.
"Let's go."
