Perfect Marble Statue

Permanent reminders
painted on fragile canvases
Once smooth & perfect, like marble
Now broken & lined with unfortunate memories
But still beautiful.

Where did all that pain
And hurt come from?
Nothing so beautiful & fragile
Should have to suffer
Nothing so beautiful & fragile
Should have scars.

I wish I could have seen you
When you were still that perfect marble statue
the Greeks wished they could have sculpted
So I could have stopped the rain
from eroding your perfection
into dust.

But back then, I didn't see you
Among all those perfect marble statues
Because you were too perfect
to notice someone as imperfect & broken
as me
I'm sorry
I was too lost in my own misery
to notice the perfection
right in front of me
I'm sorry
that I didn't notice you
until the rain had washed you away
and right down my street
But no matter what
You'll always be
A perfect, fragile, beautiful, marble statue
And I'll never stop holding my umbrella
over you
when the clouds cry.
