He was standing in front of Quintus' form. Red silk encasing the body entirely. His shape was frozen in place. But not from the ice. There were blackened motes swirling around the silk. Binding his body in place. The master's hand was outstretched. Fingers extended into what had to be Quintus' chest cavity. Something was slowly running down the frozen silk. Something that was the same color as the silk.
She exploded the silk off of Quintus in a burst of power she hadn't known she had. The fingers were an inch into his chest. The something that was running down his chest, was blood. His body was held motionless by those black motes. His mouth open in a scream. His scream. That had sounded when she had formed the lightning. It had been his scream she had heard, when the master had pierced his chest.
Those fingers were clawing their way deeper into his chest. She stood motionless. Not hesitating. But remembering. No water. None of her usual techniques. But his bones were digging through Quintus' bones. Probably none of her blades would work either. No water. No blade.
Her eyes flashed to ice. No blade of metal or stone.
A razor sharp sheet of ice sliced to the floor in between them. The master screamed. His hand ending in a bleeding stump. No water. No blade of metal or stone to cut through the bones. But he didn't make himself impervious to ice. Only water. Two different elements when cast in his spell. Quintus crumpled to the floor. The master turned to her, his mouth moving furiously. His lips curved in a sneer.
"Ice." He held up his bloody stump. "That will only work once little girl. Now I have added it to my spell." She let his words wash over her. Let them pass away with the current she was riding. Let the power she was holding course through her veins like waves crashing.
"Oh foolish one," she mocked him now. Her hair was flowing around her like water. Her arms outstretched, embracing the air. "Do you honestly think your paltry spells could stop me?
"I am the storm. I will wash away your power." She pushed the rain at him, battering it into his eyes so that he couldn't see her.
"I am the tempest that breaks the ships upon the cliffs." She shoved the wind into him, slamming him into the wall behind him. Not giving him the chance to recover.
"I don't need the water to destroy you. I control the elements. I change the feel of the blood in your veins." She focused. Rearranging the chemicals. Pulling out the hydrogen and the oxygen. Leaving the carbon floating free in his blood stream. Leaving the iron with nothing to attach itself to. His body weighted itself down to the floor. Letting the nitrogen cling to itself, as she stepped closer to him. His eyes were widening in horror, mouth trying to gasp. But his body wouldn't obey him. It was hers to control. She leaned into his face and whispered over him.
"I can freeze the molecules in your body and crumble you into the dust you once were." She shoved her foot against his chest. Into the same place he had been digging into Quintus'. It crumpled into a pile of flash frozen flesh as she crushed every piece of him to the floor.
Buried within the frozen pieces lay a tiny droplet shaped stone. She reached down and took it between her thumb and index finger, bringing it up to the level of her eyes. Staring at it. So blackened. So ancient. She put her hand down, unzipped her pocket and dropped it carelessly in.
