"Alright class open your textbooks to page 101...Julius Ceasar.". My new English teacher instructed the class. I miss Jeff's class. When he first stared teaching here, I never thought I would actually say that I want to be in his class it things change, people change...I changed. A month ago I was a nobody that no one liked...not even my own parents. I was just this girl who didn't want anything to do with the world or the so called 'love' in it. That is, until Jeff came along. He made me feel wanted, loved, and cared about. He made me believe in love and that there are a few good people in the world.
Today is the first day back from winter break. A new year with more changes to come. In only a few days I'll be getting married and in only a week, I'll be done with high school. All my teachers have told me that they'll miss me. No one knows about me and Jeff, besides the principal...in fact, he's coming to the wedding. Also, no one knows that Jeff is leaving either. He hasn't told his class or any of the teachers. Of course he had to tell the principal since Jeff needed to give him a letter of resignation. Jeff got job at his old high school in Massachusetts, replacing an English teacher who would be retiring at the end of the school year, which means Jeff and I have a few months to ourselves. Jeff would officially no longer be the English teacher at Springfield High School as of January 10th which means we can't go on our honeymoon until then. I'm ok with that, since I won't be graduating until then. I'm not getting the whole graduation ceremony and stuff like that. Just a diploma for me. I was honestly glad for that. I hate getting up on stage. But anyways, Jeff and I have just started looking for houses in Massachusetts...someplace not too far from Harvard or his job at Cambridge Senior High School. Surprisingly, Jeff lived not too far from Harvard as a child and his new job was just down the street from Harvard as well. So we thought we should look for a house in Cambridge or a neighboring town. So far we've only found 2 houses we both like, but after more research we found out there was something wrong with it or that it was too old. You see, neither of us like old houses...I don't like them because it's just too creepy and Jeff doesn't like them because he thinks they're haunted. Pshh!
The bell rang, making me jump. I guess I zoned out all period. No matter. I know Shakespeare's Julius Ceasar like the back of my hand. Now off to math class with Mr. Blake. On the way there i passed Jeff's classroom. I looked in and he saw me and waved to me. I waved back and gave him a smile. My math class was right next to his classroom. I walked into math and took my seat in the front, and noticed Mr. Blake was smiling at me. I smiled back and looked away. Mr. Blake was around 28 years old, tall, built, green eyes, black hair. He wasn't as built as Jeff, but was close. He was the only other teacher in the school that girls swooned over. All except me that is. The bell rang indicating for class to begin. "Ok class.". Mr. Blake began. "Today we'll be learning about linear functions. So open your notebooks and get ready to take notes."
I zoned out again after that. I already knew about linear functions...I knew the whole math curriculum and more. I kept thinking about Jeff and how he was only in the next classroom. The bell rang again, making me jump...again. I gathered my stuff together and started to leave when Mr. Blake called me back. "Scarlette, please stay behind. I need to talk to you abut something."
I nodded my head and sat back down at me desk.
"Over here. Please" he said pointing to the chair next to him. I got up and walked over and sat in the chair that was just a little bit too close to him. I slid the chair back about a foot and felt comfortable. Mr. Blake chuckled at my actions, but didn't say anything.
"what did you want to talk to me about, Mr. Blake?" I asked.
"Scarlette, you've seemed distracted lately. Today I noticed you weren't paying attention at all. Just staring blankly at your notebook all period, not Copying a single word or number I wrote on the board." he explained, gesturing to the whiteboards. I looked at them and saw them covered with notes, filling up all spaces available I looked back at him. "Is everything ok, Scar?"
