"I'm sorry."
"For what, Jeff?" I looked at him with a confused expression. We were on the couch together and Jeff was holding me, while I still cried my eyes out.
"For not getting to you quicker. I heard you scream the first time, and I didn't come. I thought it was somebody goofing off. I couldve been there before he went any further."
I mindlessly put my hand n his chest . I shook my head. "Jeff, you came just in time."
"But what if I didnt? What if I ignored the other screams?"
"But you did come and you didn't ignore my screams. That's all that matters Jeff. Please, stop beating yourself up about it. Its over and I'm ok."
"But you're crying nonstop Scar. I hate seeing you like this." he voice was cracking and tears started rolling down his face. I wiped away his tears and i cried even more just watching him cry.
"I hate seeing myself like this too." I joked, making both of us laugh, bringing levity to the room.
He hugged me even tighter and kissed my nose. "Let's take tomorrow off from school and stay home together. As long as you're crying, I'll be crying too. And let's face it, neither of us want to go out in public with red swollen eyes, right?"
"Right." I chuckled. "And I don't need anymore jokes or rude comments about me. Everyone will probably be blaming me for what happened to Mr. Blake." I cried even harder just thinking about what everyone will be saying and the jokes about me. "I-I j-just want t-to leave school already." I cried.
Jeff pulled me into his chest and soothingly stroked my hair. "I know, Scar. I know.". He cooed softly. "But look at the bright side. We're getting married in a couple days, we'll be moving to Massachusetts soon, and this will all be behind us."
THE NEXT DAY...
I woke up in Jeff's arms in the same place in the couch from last night. The sun blinded me, but I blinked away the little dots of color I was seeing. Jeff was still sleeping and I didn't want to wake him so I carefully slipped out of his arms, only to be pulled back on top of him. "Go back to sleep. It's too early." he whined with his eyes still closed. I sighed and rested my head on his chest and listened to the rhythm of his breathing. Soon enough I was back asleep.
When I woke again, I was by myself. I looked at the clock and it was 1:12 pm. Jeff mustve woken up awhile ago. I heard something in the kitchen and decided to check it out. It was Jeff making lunch. He saw me and smiled, then he went back to cooking. "Good afternoon, sleepyhead. Hope you like macaroni and cheese"
"Yeah." I answered, while rubbing both my eyes.
"Good. It'll be done soon. Go sit down."
I did and soon enough a bowl of Mac-and-cheese was place in front of me. I took a bite and looked up at Jeff. "You're eyes are puffy and red." I pointed out.
"So are yours.". We both laughed.
"I guess we both cried a little too much last night."
"I guess so. But I have some good news. Principal Robinson called not too long ago and said that Mr. Blake will be in jail for a while. Unfortunately hes alright. I was hoping that when I slammed him into the wall that he'd sustain a serious injury. But no. All he has is a bump on the head." he said in a disappointed tone.
"Are you serious? Just a bump on the head?"
"Mhm."
"Unbelievable. He must be made of rock or something because you slammed him into that wall pretty hard."
