Every night was the same. I looked down at my feet to watch the foundation run off of my skin. The faster I scrubbed wasn't to finish the shower. My skin would be raw most nights because I wanted to rid my skin of the memories. He was stuck in my mind and absolutely nothing I did would stop it. My body gets wrapped in a towel before I step out and then I look in the mirror. The blonde hair almost looked brown and my tan skin that was once bare during the day, now showed every tattoo that was put onto my skin by him. I traced them and let a tear fall. There was no denying them.
My bed was fluffy and when I laid down, it sunk down. My bedside table lamp is turned off and then I sleep peacefully.
My door was knocked on while I was getting ready for work. I rushed to it and saw through the peep hole that it was Lex. Right as soon as I opened the door, he showed a box of donuts to me. I placed my hand over my heart in a mocking way before laughing. He walked in and looked around.
"So, what are you doing at my place?" The bathroom door was cracked so he could still hear me. He made a noise as he sat down on my bed and I laughed, walking out.
"There's a black tie event tonight and I wanted to know if you'd like to join me?" The tone in his voice was worry but his face was bright and happy. I thought about all that would be happening and realized that, well, nothing was happening at work today.
"Yeah I wouldn't mind going at all." I said with a smile on my face. Lex nodded and pointed at the donuts. "I didn't know which ones you liked so I got one of each." Looking at the box, I noticed they were all different. We walked to the door and he kissed my cheek before leaving.
Now it was time to go out with a man for the first time since I left Joker.
Lex showed up at my house at 2100 so we could go to the event. While we walked down the stairs, he complimented me. Of course I said a chorus of thank you's and hit his shoulder lightly as I was sincerely flattered. We drove off to the event in a car that blasted music.
Honestly, I didn't feel like I fit in with the crowd. I'd worn my best dress and still felt like it wasn't good enough around these young girls who worm sexy, short, dresses. Everywhere that Lex went, I followed. We spoke to a man with a heavy accent about some things that came through the stock at LexCorp and then the man tried one upping Lex with what he got. I decided to leave the tension between the two men and headed to the bar.
"Could I get one glass of scotch and one glass of brandy?" The man nodded and made my drinks. I tapped my fingers and some girls looked towards me.
"So, you think Lex Luthor likes you?" It was a redhead who asked the question. Her friends laughed and I rolled my eyes.
"Awe, she doesn't speak. I always feel bad for the less fortunate." These girls don't realize that I can shoot up this whole entire building and walk away with absolutely no remorse. Lex walked up to me and I had totally forgotten about the Scotch and Brandy that I had waiting for us. I mentally face palmed as he snaked one arm around my waist, using the other to grab his Brandy. My Scotch sat there for s moment as I looked towards the girls, winking before walking off with my beverage.
"So, why'd you leave me? I look my best when I have my gorgeous assistant by my side, you know?" Well, I knew he was flirting but I decided to ignore it.
"You were going all manly on the gentleman you spoke to. I figured there was no use for me." My sentence trailed off as I noticed Bruce Wayne himself. The heart that laid in my chest had stopped beating for just a moment. Lex waved him over and I screamed at him in my head. If only he knew why this was a bad idea.
"Mr. Wayne! How lovely it is to see you here!" They shook hands then Lex bowed to me. "This is Genevieve. She's is my beautiful assistant. One of my best that has ever been around." The comment was generous but I wanted to go. Every muscle in my body had told me to run off.
The two men noticed that I wasn't shaking Bruce's hand and I smiled to them, taking his hand in mine. This was a time that I wished the most that my palms were not sweaty.
"Well, Genevieve, you look dashing. Do I know you from somewhere." My throat closed up at his comment and I feared, once again, for my safety. If he knew my real identity, who knew what would happen.
My face was plastered with a fake smile as I shrugged. "Well, I can't say you do. This is the first time we have met." The man was not convinced a bit. His eyes narrowed at me and I looked around my shoulder. I need to leave. I'm panicking and no one can help me. My body felt trapped and the dress started feeling tighter and tighter. My eyes began to water and I walked off.
Lex followed me to his car and without questioning, drove as fast as he could to my apartment.
When we got to the building, I kicked my shoes off and carried them in my hand as I raced upstairs, tears streaming down my face. Lex was following me still and called my name but all I could focus on was getting into the apartment room. My door stayed open because I was trying to get the dress off. My arms went everywhere around my body, not being able to get to the zipper in this state of mind.
Suddenly, the dress fell loose and around my ankles. My body was brought into a tight hug and I noticed that Lex had helped me out.
"Genevieve! It's going to be okay. What's wrong?" He patted my hair down and I felt spit on my lips from me hysterically crying. There was no way he could find out. "Please... trust me. You know you can trust me." Oh Lex, I wish I could. This was something far more deep than you could imagine.
