At a podium stood Lex, giving a speech. "LexCorp grew rapidly into a diverse international conglomerate with interests in utilities, waste management, chemicals, weapons, pharmaceuticals, oil, communications, airlines, real estate, hotels, media, financial services, robotics, and, well, you get the point." Everyone laughed and he cleared his throat once. "However, none on these things would be so easy to be the CEO of without the help of my beautiful assistant, Genevieve Evans!" His hand went towards me and the crowd clapped, looking towards me. I looked at everyone and smiled and then Lex began speaking once again.
"LexCorp is a company that I can take pride in. My company is worldwide and spreads through all types of countries, letting me be able to-" Everyone ducked as there was a shooting. Bruce covered me as glass broke and then I got out a gun.
That's when I heard it. Not even a second of the infamous laugh made me question who it was. I'd known who it was. My body froze, gun in hand, as Bruce pulled me away. I'd seen Joker. He's really here right now.
Bruce spoke on the phone speaking to someone but I had rolled my ankle. My voice let out a little scream and I noticed that we were now in my car and I was not driving. Instead, Bruce was. Mind you that I wasn't being told where we were going. No, I was too focused on a punch to the face, knocking me out.
When I woke up, I was in a strange room. My body was cold and I brought into a sweat as I got a memory of the night that scarecrow had attacked me. This was a lot different, though. There were no straps tying me down and I was still in my dress. I had gotten up and noticed that I was in the Batcave. This would be such great news for Joker to hear had he been in my life still.
I let myself roam around, touching things lightly. There was no doubt that my face was bruised somewhere. Bruce has a lot of explaining to do when he gets here. A creek in the wood startled me, getting my gun and pointing it to the sound. An old man stood with his hands up and a startled look upon his face. Quickly and with one swift motion, I let my gun down and got red in the face.
"My apologizes! I'm in a strange place and you snuck up on me.." The older man laughed and walked to me.
"Ah, it is okay. My name is Alfred and Master Wayne will be here momentarily. Would you like any beverage?" I nodded and the man, Alfred, walked me to a tunnel. It took not too long to get to a room that was rather small. The lights were very elegant and there were few couches. Alfred left once and then came back with some wine. I slowly sipped it and then Bruce came back in.
"I can explain." We didn't even get to say hello. I stood, angrily waiting for an explanation. "You couldn't see where we were going and I freaked out cause I was in the rush." My eyes rolled and I took another sip out of my glass. He came to me, lifting my head up by my chin.
"It's because you're Batman." My response shocked him but he knew there was no way of lying. Alfred left the room after he smiled to me.
"Yes... I have no idea why Joker went all the way down here and to a Lex Luthor hosted party." I had my suspicions. However, I couldn't just tell him or he would figure out who I was. I've tried to kill this man many times before so it's not like he would just shrug it off.
"Maybe he knew you would be there. Aren't you too like.. enemies or something?" He nodded and sighed. "What if he knows something that we don't know? Was he targeting anyone specifically?" My question made him think and then his eyes widened.
We went through the tunnel and he sat at a table of computers, typing things in and then turned towards me. "This is all private information that you may not know about. Joker was targeting Lex and if there's a meaning behind that, this is the only one I could think of." Yeah, there's no way I don't know something about Lex. Just as I thought, he brought up information about Thunder Corporations. "It isn't on any map and I can't find it." This could be my chance of saving him.
"I know where it is." Bruce gave me a look as if he didn't believe me. "No, really. He's taken me there before. Before I knew you were Batman, I had no idea as to how I'd tell him Lex's plans.." Lie. Bruce shifted in his seat and let me go on. "Bruce, it's bad. There is a weapon being made to paralyze you then create a spark between chemicals, causing you to explode." The information I gave him was very shocking to him. His eyes closed and he waited for something.
My hand went to his shoulders and I really did feel a sense of pity for him. If I was told that someone was making a weapon specifically to kill me, I don't know what I would do.
"Would you be able to tell me where this building is?" His voice was stern and deep. We discussed everything about where it was and how to get there and where the room with the weapon was located. I told him absolutely everything I had known.
Bruce took me home and when I rested in bed, I couldn't help but to think about today and the building I was in getting under attack by my love. This was the first time I'd seen him like that up close. Did he know that I was there? What if he didn't and then he had come to figure out that he'd killed me or injured me?
I know he's been looking for me. Sometimes I would hear about it in the news. They would say that he killed people at Belle Reves and the Arkham asylum, asking them if I was there. That's how he ended up in them. It's all my fault that he was put in there. Should I go to him or should I lead him to me? There's a reason I left him and I needed to remember that. How exactly was I supposed to act like that mattered more than the fact that I loved him at the moment.
I let myself fall asleep thinking about him and then began dreaming of us, happy and together.
