As it grew darker and darker outside, the velvet sky turned an eerie black. And, as it was wintertime, the nights were longer.  The millions of bright lights that were scattered all over NYC slowly started to decrease. I guessed I was staying the night to see Jazmyn in the morning, Pattie never really described this.

After an hour of watching SpongeBob I grew tired along with Justin. He headed off to bed and he insisted I stayed in the spare bedroom instead of sleeping on the sofa which I was planning on doing. So, there I was, nestled in the rather comfy double bed of the spare room. The cloud like pillows shifted beneath my head as I rolled around restlessly. I’d made sure to check on Gingerbread before I went to bed, and just as I expected he was exactly where I left him. The once lit fire had burned down and only grey ashes remained.

Every so often I would hear a minute long string of muttering from next door, Justin’s bedroom. The blue, unbelievably soft duvet that was placed over me, cuddling me as I lay there, was slowly tugged off me. Furrowing my eyebrows in confusion I turned over, rolling onto my right shoulder. I was met with the small, angel-like face of, who I presumed to be, Jazmyn. She smiled at me, her small white baby teeth showing.

I smiled wide back, how is she not freaking out? She doesn’t even know who I am. “Hi Courtney!” She exaggerated. Okay, scrap that; She does know who I am.

“Uh-hey Jazmyn” I said, still totally unsure about the situation. She smiled wide again and hopped effortlessly onto my bed which was the same height as her. She crawled over me, being careful not to place her knee on my stomach which I was very grateful about. She snuggled into the covers next to me, her purple teddy bear hugged to her chest.

After a few seconds of silence, Justin’s quiet snores could be heard from next door, these walls were too thin. Jazmyn and I both giggled, my cheeks started to hurt as I held back a loud laugh. “Justin told me about you,” Jazmyn said matter of factly, here face turning serious again. Oh god. “He said you were very nice and you were here to look after me” Jazmyn finished, a small smiled slowly crept on to her face, her full pink cheeks started to rise.

“Oh really?” I said, my eyebrows rising and a goofy smile spread across my face.

“Yeah.” She said, her smile dropping once again. “I don’t need looking after, I’m perfectly fine by myself.” She stated, folding her petite arms causing her teddy bear to be pressed harder onto her chest.

Whilst I was laughing inside, her serious face was half buried into the plush white pillow that she rested her small head on.

“Well then, I’m not here to look after you, I’m here as a friend. Like a big sleepover. Hm?” I asked, speaking my flowing mind, I automatically gave myself a mental hi five as a wide, toothy small spread onto her lips. She nodded her head quickly, her hair tangling together with every nod.

“Okay then, that’s settled.” I said laughing a little. As I stopped laughing my eyes started to close. “Jazmyn?” I whispered quietly, waiting a few seconds for her to answer. But instead I heard the near silent sound of Jazmyn’s heavy breathing. I slowly shuffled around, careful not to wobble the bed too much as I got comfortable. I slowly and finally closed my heavy eyelids, my long lashes gently stroking the top of my pink cheeks. I nudged the pillow with my nose, stuffing my face into its fluffy surface. My lips parted as I let the dizziness of sleep take over me.

I woke up slowly, my eyes opening and then closing as I got used to the bright sunlight. The cream coloured curtains were slightly open, causing a thin line of bright yellow sunlight to beam in directly onto me, blinding me. I turned my head to the side, the covers were slightly ruffled and a purple teddy bear lay on the pillow where Jazmyn had rested her head. I gave myself a few seconds to adjust to being awake, blinking the remains of sleep away from me.
