After having yet another exhilarating shower, I rummaged through my wardrobe in my room. I’d had to stuff on a pair of pyjamas quickly before rushing out of Pattie’s room and into mine. All my dresses and evening wear were here rather than at Pattie’s. I guess I would never have an occasion to use them.
I glanced at each outfit, either too much or too little. But, after at least ten minutes of convincing myself, I finally decided on a dress. The dress was a pale pink colour, with beige lace design on the shoulders; end of the sleeves, and at the rim of the dress. It didn’t take me nearly as long to decide on a pair of heels, I chose a pair of plain beige heels. I practiced walking throughout my room with the heels on, practicing my walking as I hadn’t worn heels for at least six months. My hair was loosely thrown into a messy bun, which somehow managed to look sophisticated.
I applied light makeup, just the simple eye shadow and mascara.
Time was ticking and I only had five minutes to go before Justin comes knocking at my door as promised. Rushing into the bathroom to brush my teeth thoroughly, I glanced at myself in the mirror. I always managed to pick out the negatives in myself and how I looked; my eyebrows were too thick, the bridge of my nose was too wide, and pretty much everything about me was imperfect.
Without realising that I had in fact stopped brushing my teeth, so the toothbrush was being held firmly in my mouth by my teeth, I carried on brushing. The very second I placed my now clean toothbrush into its stand, the doorbell rung. The ding echoed around my room, catching the attention of both Gingerbread and I. I guess it was unusual, to have the doorbell ring I mean, I was never expecting any visitors. But recently everything was the exact opposite, but in a good way.
I was either over at Pattie’s with Justin and Jazmyn, or they were over here. Either way, we had as much fun as possible.
I grabbed my beige clutch bag, and gripped it tightly as I walked over to the door; where Justin stood waiting on the other side. Turning the small knob on the wall, I dimmed the previously bright lights. The fire was lit and going like crazy and so I didn’t have to worry about turning the heating on for when I come back.
“Courtney...” Justin sang, the wooden door being the only factor blocking me from running up to him and flattening him in an exaggerated hug.
I took the bunch of keys from beside the door and shoved them deep inside my clutch bag, before finally opening the door. Justin stood, extremely smart may I say, wearing black skinny jeans and a white V neck. He wore a black waistcoat over the V neck, making his whole outfit look even more stylish than I thought possible. His feet were adorned with a black pair of Supras, his jeans ruffled at the bottom where they met the Supras. I was honestly surprised he wasn’t wearing low-riding jeans; I hadn’t seen even a peek of his boxers today. “Hey” I smiled, my eyes finding those enhancing, honey coloured orbs of his.
“Hey courts” Justin beamed,
His hair was perfectly styled into a quiff, identical to this morning. Before I had a chance to speak, Justin’s hand was held out, a bouquet of ruby red roses held lightly in his left hand.
“Thank you” I whispered, giggling at the same time as I carefully took the roses into my own hands. This was all extremely cheesy, yet undeniably cute. With everything Justin does he manages to make it original, make things his own way without doing a single thing. “I better go put these in some water” I spoke; taking a sniff of the bouquet, gosh they smelt so amazing. Justin nodded and I latched my pinkie around his, moving him into my room; rather than leaving him standing like a complete stranger on the hallway.
A warming smile settled on his moisturised lips, allowing me to see his glistening pearly whites. But every time I thought of those lips, that unstoppable smile, flashbacks of this morning appear. I was so embarrassed, I’m sure we both were. And I’m certain it will take at least a week for the embarrassment to die down. Our cheeks were so red, almost as red as the roses I was holding in my hand. And to add to my embarrassment, when we walked into the lounge there Pattie was, a knowing smirk on her face.
And I’m certain that by now, all she’ll be talking and asking us about; would be our date.
I’m pretty sure that just by thinking of this morning, my cheeks are already bright. And this would be the only time I was glad Justin couldn’t see me. But if there’s one thing I want more than anything else is for Justin to have faith, and for him to be even the slightest bit confident in himself.
Once the roses were settled in the cool water, I took Justin’s pinkie yet again, and led him out of my room. Being careful to turn and lock my door first, we both began to walk down the stairs. Justin removed his pinkie from around mine, and instead took a light hold onto my left hand. The warm and soft pad of his thumb rubbed the back of my hands in a circle motion; making my hand tingle.
This was becoming a normal thing, the tingling sensation I mean. Every time he would hold my hand, kiss my cheek, nudge my neck with his nose, or even if our sides brushed together slightly; I would tingle. And it would stay tingling for over a minute, sending Goosebumps to rise on my arms and shivers to flow down my spine.
We carried on walking, smiles on both of our faces, as we reached the bottom of the staircase. I’m guessing that Justin chose the Italian across the street, as all the other Italians are a while away from here. Though I would have been able to drive us there, I had a feeling he would not want me to do so, as he was treating me. A taxi was also an option, put the task of finding a taxi was tedious and was there really much use when the restaurant was so close by?
I smiled politely to Henry as he pushed the door open for us, a warm smile on his face too.
“Court’s, you look beautiful” Justin spoke confidently, as if he was certain I was beautiful. But of course, I doubted it. He gently squeezed my hand, letting me know that he really did mean it. We walked down the pavement a little, before I guided us both across the street safely.
Once we reached the other side Justin let out a barely audible sigh, his two front teeth latched onto his plump, bottom lip. “I mean it Courts, I know you look beautiful” he tugged on my hand gently, stopping me from walking any further. People started at us as they walked past, but I could care less.
Turning to face Justin’s serious face, I let out a similar sigh. Heads turned to us, as people stopped eating their meals to watch us. Justin’s eyebrows rose, as he awaited my answer. “I know” I whispered, bowing my head. I watched as Justin’s feet shuffled in their place, before I began to lead us into the Italian we were standing outside of.
Even before we entered, the warm smell of dough and the sharp smell of pepper hit my senses, causing my stomach to rumble. But with all the clanking of the dishes, and the coherent of everybody’s mindless chatter, it was inaudible.
Squeezing my hand yet again, Justin and I both walked into the Italian; our fingers entwined, wide smiles on our faces, and high hopes for the night ahead.
